Bakhtiyar-nama
The ''Bakhtiyar-nama'' is a medieval Iranian romance, which both has a prose and verse version. The earliest surviving version of the work is in the Arabic prose text of ''ʿAjāʾib al-bakht fī qiṣṣat al-aḥdī ʿashar wazīran wa-mā jāra lahum maʿ Ibn al-Malik Āzādbakht'' ("Wonders of the age, or the story of the eleven viziers and what befell them with prince Azadbakht"), written in 1000. The earliest surviving New Persian version is the ''Rāḥat al-arvāḥ'' ("Souls' repose") by the poet Shams al-Din Muhammad Daqa'iqi Marvaz, in a manuscript written in 1264/5. It has been suggested that the story originates from a Middle Persian Middle Persian or Pahlavi, also known by its endonym Pārsīk or Pārsīg () in its later form, is a Western Middle Iranian language which became the literary language of the Sasanian Empire. Prose
Prose is a form of written or spoken language that follows the natural flow of speech, uses a language's ordinary grammatical structures, or follows the conventions of formal academic writing. Verse (poetry)
A verse is formally a single metrical line in a poetic composition. However, verse has come to represent any grouping of lines in a poetic composition, with groupings traditionally having been referred to as stanzas. Verse in the uncountable ( mass noun) sense refers to poetry in contrast to prose. Where the common unit of verse is based on meter or rhyme, the common unit of prose is purely grammatical, such as a sentence or paragraph. Verse in the second sense is also used pejoratively in contrast to poetry to suggest work that is too pedestrian or too incompetent to be classed as poetry. New Persian
New Persian ( fa, فارسی نو), also known as Modern Persian () and Dari (), is the current stage of the Persian language spoken since the 8th to 9th centuries until now in Greater Iran and surroundings. It is conventionally divided into three stages: Early New Persian (8th/9th centuries), Classical Persian (10th–18th centuries), and Contemporary Persian (19th century to present). Middle Persian
Middle Persian or Pahlavi, also known by its endonym Pārsīk or Pārsīg () in its later form, is a Western Middle Iranian language which became the literary language of the Sasanian Empire. For some time after the Sasanian collapse, Middle Persian continued to function as a prestige language. Persian Literature
Persian literature ( fa, ادبیات فارسی, Adabiyâte fârsi, ) comprises oral compositions and written texts in the Persian language and is one of the world's oldest literatures. It spans over two-and-a-half millennia.
