Zürich Wiedikon Railway Station
Zürich Wiedikon railway station (german: Bahnhof Zürich Wiedikon) is a railway station on the Zürich S-Bahn system in Wiedikon in the western part of the Swiss city of Zürich. It is the only railway station in Switzerland where the reception building is located like a bridge across the tracks – in German called Reiterbahnhof. The station is served by S-Bahn trains on the Lake Zürich left bank line approaching the city from the south and south-east directions. InterCity and InterRegio trains and the accelerated S25 service bypass the station through the Zimmerberg Base Tunnel since 2003. History The first Wiedikon station opened in 1875 with the opening of the Lake Zürich left bank line. The ZVV (German abbreviation for Zürcher Verkehrsverbund, translated into English as Zürich Transport Network or Zürich Traffic Network) is a public transportation system. It combines rail, bus, tram, trolleybus, lake boat, cable car and other services in the Swiss canton of Zürich (and including Rapperswil-Jona (SG), Pfäffikon SZ and spots outside of the canton) integrating them into a single fare network with coordinated timetables. The line was significantly extended in June 2014, and again in December 2015, and has subsumed the S21 (originally S1) line previously providing service in parts of its extended route.
