Zuidplaspolder
The Zuidplaspolder is a polder in the western Netherlands, located northeast of Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland, neighbouring settlements such as Zuidplas, Zevenhuizen, Waddinxveen, Moerkapelle, Gouda, Moordrecht, and Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel. It reaches a depth of below average sea level. This makes it, along with Lammefjord in Denmark, the lowest point of the European Union. History Due to lots of soil extraction, there was a large deep lake named the ''Zuidplas'' ("South puddle") until the 19th century. This area was viewed as a very worthy land for agriculture. In 1816, King William I decided to drain the lake. During the following years, a plan for the development of the area was developed which was supposed to be deployed between the church towers of Moorkapelle and Moordrecht. Lammefjord
The Lammefjord is a polder in Denmark at the base of the Odsherred peninsula. Previously a deeply branched arm of the sea leading west from the Isefjord, most of it is now reclaimed as agricultural land. The eastern third, outside the dyke at Avdebo, is still sea, but the name ''Lammefjorden'' now usually refers only to the dry part west of the dyke. The sandy former sea bed is excellent agricultural land, especially for crops such as carrots and potatoes. The draining project began in 1873, but it took until 1943 before the lowest elevations were pumped dry. Large parts of the fjord were shallow enough to be dry early on. In 1899 the Odsherred Railway opened across the western end of the fjord. The town of Fårevejle Stationsby grew up where the railway intersects that main road across the seabed; it serves as the administrative and mercantile center for much of the Lammefjord. Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel (; population: 22,344 in 2004) is a town and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. Since 2010 it is part of the new municipality of Zuidplas. It is situated along the Hollandsche IJssel river, across from the town Ouderkerk aan den IJssel. Zevenhuizen, Zuidplas
Zevenhuizen is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of South Holland. It is located about 12 km northeast of the city of Rotterdam. Zevenhuizen was a separate municipality until 1991, when it merged with Moerkapelle to form the new municipality of Moerhuizen (renamed in 1992 to Zevenhuizen-Moerkapelle).Ad van der Meer and Onno Boonstra, "Repertorium van Nederlandse gemeenten", KNAW, 2006. Gouda () is a city and municipality in the west of the Netherlands, between Rotterdam and Utrecht, in the province of South Holland.
