Songjiang District
Songjiang is a suburban district (formerly a county) of Shanghai. It has a land area of and a population of 1,582,398 (2010). Owing to a long history, Songjiang is known as the cultural root of Shanghai. Songjiang Town, the urban center of the district, was formerly the major city in the area. It is now connected to downtown Shanghai by Line 9 of the Shanghai Metro. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. Line 9 (Shanghai Metro)
Line 9 is a southwest-northeast line of the Shanghai Metro network. The line runs from in Songjiang District to in Pudong. The line is colored on system maps. History In the initial planning of Line 9, the entire line was from Fengjing to Chongming Island. Later, the plan to extend to Fengjing was cancelled, and the section to Chongming Island was changed to Chongming line. The first phase of Line 9, from to stations, opened on December 29, 2007. It uses the Bombardier Movia trains which were lended to line 1. Line 9 did not directly connect to the rest of the Shanghai Metro network until the opening of the Line 9 portion of the station on December 28, 2008. Zuibaichi
Zuibaichi () is a Chinese garden in Shanghai's suburban Songjiang District that dates back to the Song Dynasty. It occupies an area of 5 hectares and is one of the five ancient Chinese gardens in Shanghai, along the Guyi Garden, the Yu Garden, the Garden of Autumn Vapors, and the Garden of Zigzag Stream. History The garden was first set up as the private villa of Zhu Zhichun, a Jinshi selected from Imperial examination. Its size was rarely enlarged for hundreds of years until Dong Qichang, a Chinese painter, calligrapher of the later period of the Ming Dynasty, built several more ancient architectural complex on its original basis. In 1797, the garden began to be used as a foundling hospital until it was well repaired and reopened to the public in 1959. The garden's name lies in the famous Chinese poet Li Bai. The Songjiang Mosque (), formerly called the Real Religion Mosque, is a mosque in Songjiang District, Shanghai, China. It is the oldest mosque in Shanghai. History The mosque was originally constructed during the Toghon Temür reign of the Yuan dynasty. It was rebuilt in 1391 and expanded three times during the Ming dynasty. The mosque then went through four renovations during the Qing dynasty. On 26 August 1908, the Shanghai municipal government listed the mosque as a cultural heritage. The mosque underwent renovation again in 1985. Architecture The mosque covers an area of 4,900 m2. It was constructed in traditional Hui Muslim Chinese palace architecture with Arabic calligraphy.
