European Bison
The European bison (''Bison bonasus'') or the European wood bison, also known as the wisent ( or ), the zubr (), or sometimes colloquially as the European buffalo, is a European species of bison. It is one of two extant species of bison, alongside the American bison. The European bison is the heaviest wild land animal in Europe, and individuals in the past may have been even larger than their modern-day descendants. During late antiquity and the Middle Ages, bison became extinct in much of Europe and Asia, surviving into the 20th century only in northern-central Europe and the northern Caucasus Mountains. During the early years of the 20th century, bison were hunted to extinction in the wild. The species — now numbering several thousand and returned to the wild by captive breeding programmes — is no longer in immediate danger of extinction, but remains absent from most of its historical range. Zubr (political Organization)
Zubr ( be, ЗУБР) was a civic youth organization in Belarusin opposition to President Alyaksandr Lukashenka. The organization drew inspiration from Otpor! student movement (formerly of Yugoslavia) which contributed to the overthrow of Slobodan Milošević in 2000, and from Gene Sharp's writings on nonviolent action. Zubr became noticed internationally in 2005 when US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who was visiting Lithuania, met their leaders, who risked imprisonment upon their return. Some reporters have credited Zubr's leaders with the idea of a 'Denim Revolution', which, they hoped would attract popular support as Ukraine's Orange Revolution and Georgia's Rose Revolution. But, Lukashenko had said: "In our country, there will be no pink or orange, nor even a banana revolution". Daniil Aleksandrovich Granin (russian: Дании́л Алекса́ндрович Гра́нин; 1 January 1919 – 4 July 2017), original family name German (russian: Ге́рман), was a Soviet and Russian author. Life and career Granin started writing in the 1930s, while he was still an engineering student at the Leningrad Polytechnical Institute. After graduation, Granin began working as a senior engineer at an energy laboratory, and shortly after war broke out, he volunteered to fight as a soldier. One of the first widely praised works of Granin was a short story about graduate students titled "Variant vtoroi" (The second variant), which was published in the journal '' Zvezda'' in 1949. Granin had continued to study engineering and work as a technical writer before he achieved literary success, thanks to his ''Iskateli'' (''The Seekers'', 1955), a novel inspired by his career in engineering. The TOZ-55 «Zubr» (''ТОЗ-55 « Зубр»'') is a Soviet double-barreled combination gun for big-game hunting. History In the early 1970s N. I. Korovyakov began work on design the new model of double-barreled combination gun based on design of his TOZ-34 shotgun. In 1975, first TOZ-55 «Zubr» shotguns were made. In April 1987, it was announced that Tula Arms Plant would begin mass production of new TOZ-84 shotgun and this gun will replace in production TOZ-34, TOZ-55 and TOZ-57. Zubr-class LCAC
The Zubr class, Soviet designation Project 1232.2, (NATO reporting name "Pomornik") is a class of Soviet-designed air-cushioned landing craft (LCAC). The name "Żubr" is Polish for the European bison. This class of military hovercraft is, , the world's largest, with a standard full load displacement of 555 tons. The hovercraft was designed to sealift amphibious assault units (such as marines and tanks) from equipped/non-equipped vessels to non-equipped shores, as well as to transport and plant naval mines. Ten Zubr-class hovercraft remain in service. There are two vessels in the Russian Navy and four with the Hellenic Navy. In 2009 China placed an order for four vessels from Ukraine as part of a deal worth 315 million USD. Żubr (beer)
Żubr beer (Polish for ''Bison'') is a Polish lager brewed by the Kompania Piwowarska SA. It was formerly known as Dojlidy, the name of the brewery in the Białystok district of Dojlidy, where it is produced. Brand Żubr has been brewed since the Dojlidy Brewery opened in 1768. The Białystok based brewery was bought by the SABMiller subsidiary Kompania Piwowarska SA in 2003. The brew contains 12.1% (by weight) of extract content and 6.0% alcohol. Currently it is brewed at three Kompania Piwowarska breweries: Białystok, Poznan and Tychy. Marketing It is available throughout Poland, and is also available in many off-licences in the UK, due to demand for the beer from the Polish population in Britain. The LWS-6 Żubr (PZL.30, ''wisent'') was a twin-engined medium bomber designed and produced by the Polish aircraft manufacturer LWS. It was only produced in limited numbers and was used for training purposes as it proved to be inferior to the contemporary PZL.37 ''Łoś'' medium bomber. The LWS-6 was originally designed as a 12-passenger airliner during the early 1930s, but was reconfigured to produce bomber instead. AMZ Żubr
The AMZ Żubr is an infantry mobility vehicle produced by AMZ-Kutno which is used by the Polish military. "Żubr" is also the Polish word for wisent. It was designed by AMZ-Kutno and began production in 2008. The standard Żubr variant, the Żubr MRAP, is based on the Iveco EuroCargo vehicle, which is produced in Poland. The Żubr was designed for enhanced protection against land mines and improvised explosive devices. The vehicle's hull is V-shaped to deflect blasts. The Żubr is armored against 12.7-mm armor-piercing rounds and features a remotely controlled weapons station. The Żubr can carry 2000–5000 kg within the vehicle and can tow an additional 1500 kg.
