Zlatar (mountain)
Zlatar ( sr-Cyrl, Златар, ) is a mountain range in southwestern Serbia, lying between towns of Prijepolje and Nova Varoš. Its highest peak is Velika krseva, 1,627 meters tall, peak next to Golo brdo. It belongs to Stari Vlah group of Dinaric Alps. Zlatar is bounded by rivers Uvac, Lim, Mileševka and Bistrica, and has a total of four artificial lakes – Zlatar Lake, Radoinjsko Lake, Uvac Lake and Potpeć. Mountainous climate with significant mediterranean influence, dense pine forests, and a high number of sunny days, is suitable for medicinal purposes and altitude training Altitude training is the practice by some endurance athletes of training for several weeks at high altitude, preferably over above sea level, though more commonly at intermediate altitudes due to the shortage of suitable high-altitude locations. Dinaric Alps
The Dinaric Alps (), also Dinarides, are a mountain range in Southern and Southcentral Europe, separating the continental Balkan Peninsula from the Adriatic Sea. They stretch from Italy in the northwest through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, and Kosovo to Albania in the southeast. Prijepolje
Prijepolje ( sr-cyr, Пријепоље, ) is a town and municipality located in the Zlatibor District of southwestern Serbia. As of 2011 census, the town has 13,330 inhabitants, while the municipality has 37,059 inhabitants. Etymology One possible meaning of the name Prijepolje is "Prija's field", where Prija is the owner of ''polje'', the "field" in English. However, a more likely theory is that the name originates from the location of Prijepolje and its relationship to the travels of caravans. When those caravans were passing through the area which would become Prijepolje, they would arrive at the settlement "before the fields", where the present day neighborhoods of Ivanje and Velika Župa are located. "Prije" means "before", and "polje" means "field", hence, the location might be called Prijepolje. Geography Prijepolje is located at the confluence of the fast-flowing Lim and Mileševka rivers. Nova Varoš
Nova Varoš ( sr-cyr, Нова Варош, ) is a town and municipality located in the Zlatibor District of southwestern Serbia. The municipality of Nova Varoš has a population of 16,638, while the town of Nova Varoš itself has a population of 8,795 inhabitants. History Nova Varoš was founded in the middle of the 16th century. It is associated with the name of Skender-pasha of Genoa. When Skender-pasha, traveling from Bosnia to Constantinople (1530), stopped with his entourage on the plateau below the mountain Zlatar and was delighted with the beauty of this wooded area and the intoxicating smell of pine, he ordered a town to be built there. Settlements soon sprang up on the site of today's Nova Varoš. It was called Skender-pašina palanka (''Skender-pasha's Palanka''). The Uvac ( sr-cyrl, Увац) is an international trans-boundary river, rising under Golija mountain and Pešter plateau, then flowing through southwestern Serbia and cross into eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina where, after 115 km, it finally meets the Lim river from the right, however, before it empties into the Lim, for a 10 kilometers Uvac forms the border between two countries. Also, while meandering through Serbia, Uvac loosely makes the northern border of the Raška region, too. The Mileševka ( sr-cyr, Милешевка), or Mileševska River ( sr, Милешевска река / ''Mileševska reka'', "Mileševa River"), is a river in southwestern Serbia and a major tributary of the Lim. Zlatar Lake
Zlatar Lake ( sr, / ) is an artificial lake located among the mountains of Zlatibor and Zlatar (mountain) 15 km from the town of Nova Varoš.
