Ziraldo Alves Pinto (born October 24, 1932), usually referred to mononymous person, mononymically as Ziraldo, is a Brazilian author, painter, comic creator, and journalist. His books have sold about ten million copies, have been translated to many foreign languages and adapted to the theater and cinema. His children's books, such as the popular ''O Menino Maluquinho'', have also been the basis of successful films and television series in Brazil. Biography Ziraldo first published his work when he was six years old, a year before he started going to school. This was a drawing printed in the newspaper ''A Folha de Minas'' in 1938. He began working at the newspaper ''Folha de S.Paulo'' in 1954, with a column dedicated to humor. Ziraldo gained national notoriety when he worked at the magazine ''O Cruzeiro'' in 1957 and subsequently at ''Jornal do Brasil'' in 1963. O Menino Maluquinho
O Menino Maluquinho (''The Nutty Boy'') is a comic book and comic strip series created by Brazilian writer and cartoonist Ziraldo. It was based on the eponymous children's book published in 1980 which for many years was regarded as a classic of children's literature in Brazil, getting spun off into movies, plays and TV series. The comic books were published by Abril and Globo from 1989 until 2007. It was Ziraldo's second series of comic books, after "Turma do Pererê". The main character, "Maluquinho" is a cheerful and optimistic 10-year-old boy who wears a pan on his head like a hat. Most of the stories revolve around the misadventures of Maluquinho and his friends with a light humour. Turma Do Pererê
Turma do Pererê, or just Pererê, was a Brazilian comic book series created by writer and cartoonist Ziraldo in 1959. The series was originally launched in single-panel cartoons originally published in the pages of magazine ''O Cruzeiro'' that through their popularity eventually earning his own comic book in 1960 then called only "Pererê", one of the first children's comic books series in Brazil. The comics tagged generation among many Brazilians, but were eventually canceled in 1964, only returning to be published in 1975 by Abril with the current title "Turma do Pererê" which was canceled the following year and shall have only republications in subsequent years, until 1980 when he dedicated to the comics of the Menino Maluquinho. O Pasquim
''O Pasquim'' was a Brazilian weekly newspaper published in Rio de Janeiro from 1969 to the mid 1970s. It was critical of the military dictatorship and it is considered the founding periodical of Brazil's alternative press. The idea for the periodical began in 1968 after a meeting of cartoonist Jaguar with journalists Tarso de Castro and Sérgio Cabral. They were looking for an alternative to substitute Sergio Porto's tabloid ''A carapuça''. The name was Jaguar's idea, inspired in the Italian folk-tale character ''Pasquino'', who, according to the legend, used to write and tell stories in a major public square. Antônio Pinto (composer)
Antônio Alves Pinto (born 1967) is a Brazilian film score composer. He is the son of the famous cartoonist Ziraldo and the brother of the film-maker Daniela Thomas. His work earned him a World Soundtrack Award and an ASCAP award, as well as a nomination in the Best Original Song category at the 65th Golden Globe Awards for writing the song " Despedida" with Shakira. He composed the soundtrack to ''The Mosquito Coast'' and played the key instruments. Saci (Brazilian Folklore)
Saci ( ) is a character in Brazilian folklore. He is a one-legged black man, who smokes a pipe and wears a magical red cap that enables him to disappear and reappear wherever he wishes (usually in the middle of a Dirt devil). Considered an annoying prankster in most parts of Brazil, and a potentially dangerous and malicious creature in others, he nevertheless grants wishes to anyone who manages to trap him or steal his magic cap. However, his cap is often depicted as having a bad smell. Most people who claimed to have stolen this cap say they can never wash the smell away. The legend says that a person can trap a Saci inside a bottle when he is in the form of a dust devil. Daniela Thomas
Daniela Thomas (born 1959) is a Brazilian film director, screenwriter and editor. Early life In 1959, Thomas was born as Daniela Gontijo Alves Pinto in Brazil. Thomas' father is Ziraldo Alves Pinto, a cartoonist. Thomas' brother is Antonio Pinto. Career In 1994, Thomas co-directed her first feature film, ''Terra Estrangeira'' aka Foreign Land, alongside Walter Salles. Thomas is also its screenwriter and production designer. In 1998, Thomas debuted as a theatre director with her version of ''The Seagull'' by Anton Chekhov, starring Fernanda Montenegro and assisted by Luiz Päetow. In 2007, again with Salles, Thomas directed ''Linha de Passe'', the film which gave Sandra Corveloni a Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
