The ''Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode'' (1844−1998) was a newspaper in Zierikzee, Netherlands. Throughout its history it was published 2 to 4 times per week. History The ''Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode'' was founded by Pieter de Looze, who was a book and newspaper printer, publisher, and seller in Zierikzee, operating from his home at Melkmarkt 2. During the years 18491861 , some of the content of the Nieuwsbode was reprinted in the United States as the Sheboygan Nieuwsbode, for Zeelanders taking interest in news from home. Pieter de Looze was succeeded by his son Adriaan Johannes de Looze as printer and publisher of the ''Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode''. In 1869 the print operation, including the ''Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode'', was acquired by Ochtman, later known as Lakenman en Ochtman, then shortened to LNO. Pieter De Looze
Pieter de Looze (23 September 1811–14 April 1881) was a book and newspaper printer, publisher, and seller in Zierikzee, best known as founder of the Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode. Career and aftermath The publishing and book selling firm was started in the first half of the 19th century by Pieter de Looze at his residential address, Melkmarkt 2 (corner Schuithaven). In 1844 Pieter founded the Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode that he published and printed. Pieter de Looze was succeeded by his son Adriaan Johannes (also spelled as Johannis) de Looze. In 1869 the print operation, including the ''Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode'', was acquired by Ochtman, later known as Lakenman en Ochtman, recently shortened to LNO. In 1998 the Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode was acquired by and merged into the Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant. The property on Melkmart 2 in Zierikzee is still mixed use: commercial and residential. Zierikzee () is a small city in the southwest Netherlands, 50 km southwest of Rotterdam. It is situated in the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland, Zeeland. The city hall of Schouwen-Duiveland is located in Zierikzee, its largest city. Zierikzee is connected to Oosterschelde through a canal. In 2001, the town of Zierikzee had 10,313 inhabitants. Schouwen-Duiveland
Schouwen-Duiveland () is a municipality and an island in the southwestern Netherlands province of Zeeland. The municipality has 33,737 inhabitants (1 January 2016) and covers an area of (of which is water). The northside of the island has two fixed connections to Goeree-Overflakkee, the Brouwersdam and the Grevelingen. The southside has two fixed connections to cross the Oosterschelde to North Beveland, the Stormvloed Kering or Oosterscheldedam, part of the Delta Works and the Zeeland Bridge. The island is mostly flat and is, besides a small area, below the sea level. On the western tip is a dune whose highest point is about 42 meters above sea level.
