Zeev Shek
Zeev Shek, (born May 13, 1920; died October 2, 1978, Rome, ), a Holocaust survivor, was an Israeli diplomat. He was also one of the founders of the Beit Theresienstadt museum, opened in 1975. Biography According to Daniel, Zeev grew up in a large and religious family. Shek met his wife, Alisa Ehrmann-Shek, in Prague as part of the Zionist youth movement and both were deported to the Theresienstadt Ghetto. When his mother was sent to Auschwitz, wjere she died in the gas chamber, he volunteered to go with her. Hospitalized and in a coma after liberation, Zeev woke up in an American hospital, he heard English and thought he died and went to the British mandate in heaven. He was determined to document the events in the ghetto and before he left for Auschwitz, made sure his wife carried on his mission. They reunited after the war and emigrated to Israel in 1946. Alisa Ehrmann-Shek
Alisa “Alice” Ehrmann-Shek (May 5, 1927, Prague-2007) is a Holocaust survivor whose diary documents the last six months of the Theresienstadt Ghetto. She and her husband were two of the founders of the Beit Theresienstadt museum, opened in 1975. Biography Alice’s father, Rudolf Ehrmann, was an architect. Her mother Pavla was born Catholic in Vienna. When she married, she did not practice any religion. Alice and her older sister neither attended religious schools nor did they practice Judaism though they always knew of their Jewish heritage. Both Alice and her husband Zeev Shek were Czechoslovak and Theresienstadt survivors. They knew each other from Prague’s Zionist youth movement. She was deported to the Terezin ghetto in 1943 and the couple secretly married there. They were separated when Shek volunteered to go with his mother to Auschwitz. Theresienstadt Ghetto
Theresienstadt Ghetto was established by the SS during World War II in the fortress town of Terezín, in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia ( German-occupied Czechoslovakia). Theresienstadt served as a waystation to the extermination camps. Its conditions were deliberately engineered to hasten the death of its prisoners, and the ghetto also served a propaganda role. Unlike other ghettos, the exploitation of forced labor was not economically significant. The ghetto was established by the transportation of Czech Jews in November 1941. The first German and Austrian Jews arrived in June 1942; Dutch and Danish Jews came at the beginning in 1943, and prisoners of a wide variety of nationalities were sent to Theresienstadt in the last months of the war. Moshe Sharett ( he, משה שרת, born Moshe Chertok (Hebrew: )‎ 15 October 1894 – 7 July 1965) was a Russian-born Israeli politician who served as Israel's second prime minister from 1954 to 1955. A member of Mapai, Sharett's term was both preceded and succeeded by the premiership of David Ben-Gurion. Sharett also served as the country's first foreign minister between 1948 and 1956. Biography Born in Kherson in the Russian Empire (today in Ukraine), Sharett immigrated to Ottoman Palestine as a child in 1906. For two years, 1906–1907, the family lived in a rented house in the village of Ein-Sinya, north of Ramallah. In 1910 his family moved to Jaffa, then became one of the founding families of Tel Aviv. He graduated from the first class of the Herzliya Hebrew High School, even studying music at the Shulamit Conservatory. Daniel Shek is a former Israeli diplomat who served as Ambassador to France (September 2006-December 2010) and Consulate General to the Pacific Northwest of the US based in San Francisco. He is a member of the Kadima party. Biography Shek was born in Jerusalem on June 16, 1955, to Zeev Shek, also an ambassador and his mother, Alisa Ehrmann-Shek, am artist He attended Hebrew University of Jerusalem, studying general history and French literature, after serving in the military.
