Rise Festival
Rise was a free anti-racism music festival held in London, England, from 1996 to 2008. Originally organised as an anti-racism festival by the Trades Union Congress (TUC), it was revived as such by the former mayor of London, Ken Livingstone. In June 2008, the Greater London Authority, under newly elected mayor Boris Johnson, removed the anti-racist message of the festival. Subsequently, the trade unions UNISON and Unite the Union withdrew their festival funding, and Johnson cancelled the festival in April 2009, blaming lack of sponsorship. When, in 1996, the festival was set up, it was originally called "Respect". While primarily a music festival, it also worked to encourage trade unions, Voluntary sector, voluntary groups, charities and community organisations to highlight their work and ideas concerning equality and the promotion of anti-racism. Blue Peter
''Blue Peter'' is a British children's television entertainment programme created by John Hunter Blair. It is the longest-running children's TV show in the world, having been broadcast since October 1958. It was broadcast primarily from BBC Television Centre in London until September 2011, when the programme moved to dock10 studios at MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester. Sky One was a British pay television channel operated and owned by Sky Group (a division of Comcast). "Box of Secrets" is the second single by singer/songwriter Zarif and the second single taken from her debut album ''Box of Secrets''. The song contains samples from the song "Sing, Sing, Sing" by Louis Prima and the commercial single version contains a rap from Mz Bratt. Background "Box of Secrets" originally featured on an advert for Sky1 in 2009 and later was released as a free download for a limited time period. In 2010, it was released as the second single from Zarif's debut album, also titled ''Box of Secrets'' on 16 August 2010, following her departure from RCA / Sony BMG. It will be released on her own label, Bright Pink Records. The single and video version of the song features a new rap by British MC Mz Bratt. ''This Was Supposed to Be the Future'' is the third studio album by The Nextmen. It was released in June 2007 on Antidote Records. It was a change in their sound; a prevalence of songs over rap tracks. Ten different vocalists appear on the album. Zarif (singer), Zarif appears the most, with three tracks, and LSK and Dynamite MC both appear twice. At their album launch, The Nextmen performed as a full 10 piece band, with members of the Part Time Heroes. Artwork Joe Pilbeam commissioned the Brighton-based illustrator Alex Young to create an image showing childhood fantasies of what the future might be like. The Nextmen
The Nextmen is a UK production/songwriting/DJ duo consisting of Dom Search (a.k.a. Dominic Betmead) and Brad Baloo (a.k.a. Brad Ellis). Often incorporating hip hop, drum & bass, dub, pop, soul and various other eclectic electronic and indie genres into their sounds, they have worked with many artists from the UK and US. Musical career The Nextmen have been remixers since 2000 working with Public Enemy, the Pharcyde, Blackalicious, Jeru the Damaja, Groove Armada, the Kooks, Fat Freddy's Drop, Rae & Christian, and many more.
