Zanesville YWCA
The former Zanesville YWCA, located at 49 North 6th Street in Zanesville, Ohio, United States, is an historic building built in 1926 for members of the Young Women's Christian Association. It was designed by Howell & Thomas. On July 17, 1978, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is now Bryan Place. History and current use The building was built in 1926 for members of the YWCA. Like many YWs of the time, the Zanesville YW provided rooms for single women to rent in addition to providing recreational and social activities for young women. Zanesville is a city in and the county seat of Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. It is located east of Columbus and had a population of 24,765 as of the 2020 census, down from 25,487 as of the 2010 census. Historically the state capital of Ohio, Zanesville anchors the Zanesville micropolitan statistical area (population 86,183), and is part of the greater Columbus-Marion-Zanesville combined statistical area. History Zanesville was named after Ebenezer Zane (1747–1811), who had blazed Zane's Trace, a pioneer trail from Wheeling, Virginia (now in West Virginia) to Maysville, Kentucky through present-day Ohio. In 1797, he remitted land as payment to his son-in-law, John McIntire (1759–1815), at the point where Zane's Trace met the Muskingum River. Howell & Thomas was an American architectural partnership formed by Carl Eugene Howell (1879–1930) and James William Thomas, Jr. (1876–1973) in Columbus, Ohio, and later, Cleveland, Ohio, that designed many residences for wealthy clients between 1908 and 1930. The partners were classmates at University of Pennsylvania and first established their practice in Columbus, Ohio. They designed homes for the Euclid Golf subdivision along Fairmont Boulevard in Cleveland Heights, built on the site of John D. Rockefeller's once private course.
