Zanesville City School District
Zanesville City School District is a public school district serving students in the city of Zanesville, Ohio, United States. The school district enrolls 3,654 students as of the 2012–2013 academic year. History The first school house (a log-cabin) was built and opened in 1803. There have been five different buildings housing Zanesville High School. The first was on 9th Street 1842 till 1884, which was razed to build Pioneer Elementary School. The second in 1884, and in 1908 became Hancock Junior High School, when the new high school was built. The 1884 building originally had 4 floors, but was later lowered and only had 2 floors. The third high school, was Lash High School, in 1908, which became the new Hancock Junior High School in 1953 when the 4th Zanesville opened in 1953. In 2010 the 5th high school was built right atop where he 1953 building was originally located. Zanesville, Ohio
Zanesville is a city in and the county seat of Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. It is located east of Columbus and had a population of 24,765 as of the 2020 census, down from 25,487 as of the 2010 census. Historically the state capital of Ohio, Zanesville anchors the Zanesville micropolitan statistical area (population 86,183), and is part of the greater Columbus-Marion-Zanesville combined statistical area. History Zanesville was named after Ebenezer Zane (1747–1811), who had blazed Zane's Trace, a pioneer trail from Wheeling, Virginia (now in West Virginia) to Maysville, Kentucky through present-day Ohio. In 1797, he remitted land as payment to his son-in-law, John McIntire (1759–1815), at the point where Zane's Trace met the Muskingum River. Zanesville High School
Zanesville High School is a public high school in Zanesville, Ohio. Zanesville High School is the only public high school in the Zanesville City School District. History The first Zanesville High School was built in downtown North 6th Street 1849 and opened its doors in 1855. In 1908, a new Zanesville High School was built across the street and named Lash High School in honor of Superintendent William D. Lash. The fourth version, was opened on September 9, 1954, on Blue Ave. This land was willed by John McIntire for public park/education. At the time of its opening, the Times Recorder' said of the $4 million school, "you have to see it to believe it.". Old Lash High became Hancock Jr High until it was demolished in the early 1980s. From 1908 until 1988, ZHS housed grades 10–12, now ZHS houses grades 9–12.
