Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) is the dominant central trade union federation in Zambia. It's vision is founded on the firm belief that trade union are indispensable partners in the industrial relations involving government, employers and labor and that the process of development culminates into equitable distribution of wealth among stakeholders. ZCTU was founded in 1964. The ZCTU was created by the government to replace the former United Trade Union Congress. It has 33 affiliated unions. Blake is a surname which originated from Old English. Its derivation is uncertain; it could come from "blac", a nickname for someone who had dark hair or skin, or from "blaac", a nickname for someone with pale hair or skin. United Trade Union Congress is a central trade union organisation in India. UTUC is politically tied to Revolutionary Socialist Party. Ashok Ghosh is the general secretary of UTUC. According to provisional statistics from the Ministry of Labour, UTUC had a membership of 383,946 in 2002. UTUC was founded at an All India Labour Conference in Calcutta, 1 May 1949. The founding president was professor K.T. Shah, a member of the Constituent Assembly from Bombay, and the founding general secretary was Mrinal Kanti Bose, a former AITUC president from Bengal. At the time of its foundation, Bose claimed that the organisation consisted of 236 unions with a combined membership of 347,428. Frederick Chiluba
Frederick Jacob Titus Chiluba (30 April 1943 – 18 June 2011) was a Zambian politician who was the second president of Zambia from 1991 to 2002. Chiluba, a trade union leader, won the country's multi-party presidential election in 1991 as the candidate of the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD), defeating long-time President Kenneth Kaunda. He was re-elected in 1996. As he was unable to run for a third term in 2001, former Vice President Levy Mwanawasa instead ran as the MMD candidate and succeeded him. After leaving office, Chiluba was the subject of a long investigation and trial regarding alleged corruption; he was eventually acquitted in 2009. Fackson Shamenda
Fackson U. Shamenda (born 18 September 1950) is a Zambian trade unionist and politician. Shamenda worked for the postal service, and in 1979 he became the leader of the National Union of Communication Workers. In 1982, he became the regional representative for the Postal, Telegraph and Telephone International, then from 1994 he served as its African representative. In 1991, Shamendra was elected as president of the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions, and also as president of the Southern Africa Trade Union Co-ordination Council. In 2000, he was elected as president of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, the only African ever to hold the post. Shamendra was a supporter of the Patriotic Front.
