Zagreb Mosque
The Zagreb Mosque, located in the city of Zagreb, is the largest mosque in Croatia. The Islamic Secondary School "Dr. Ahmed Smajlović" and a cultural centre operate within the mosque. The construction began in 1981 and finished in 1987. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, the Emir of Sharjah (emirate), Sharjah, donated USD, US$2.5 million for the construction of the mosque. In 1983, he visited the Islamic community in Zagreb. Meštrović Pavilion
The Meštrović Pavilion ( hr, Meštrovićev paviljon), also known as the Home of Croatian Artists () and colloquially as the Mosque (), is a cultural venue and the official seat of the Croatian Society of Fine Artists (HDLU) located on the Square of the Victims of Fascism in central Zagreb, Croatia. Designed by Ivan Meštrović and built in 1938, it has served several functions in its lifetime. An art gallery before World War II, it was converted into a mosque under the Independent State of Croatia and was subsequently transformed into the Museum of the Revolution in post-war Yugoslavia. In 1990, it was given back to the Croatian Association of Artists. After extensive renovation, it has served as a space for exhibitions and events since 2006. Gunja Mosque
Gunja Mosque ( Croatian and Bosnian: ''Džamija u Gunji'') is the oldest active mosque in Croatia built in 1969. It is located in the village of Gunja in the Croatian part of Syrmia. History Today the Gunja Mosque is the oldest mosque in Croatia in continuous use. Historically, during the Ottoman rule, there was a significantly larger number of mosques in Croatia. At one point there were 250 of them, but as of 2014 only 3 structures remained standing. The largest and most representative one of them, Ibrahim Pasha's Mosque, is located in eastern Croatian town of Đakovo but is today used as the Roman Catholic Church of All Saints. The Albanians of Croatia ( sq, Shqiptarët në Kroaci; hr, Albanci u Hrvatskoj) are people of full or partial Albanian ancestry and heritage in Croatia. They are an autochthonous national minority recognized by the Constitution of Croatia. As such, they elect a special representative to the Croatian Parliament, shared with members of four other national minorities. The Albanian language is recognised in Croatia. In the 2011 Croatian census, there were 17,513 Albanians living in Croatia, 0.41% of total population. Rijeka Mosque
Rijeka Mosque ( Croatian and Bosnian: ''Džamija u Rijeci'') is a mosque in Rijeka, Croatia built between 2009 and 2013. The project of the mosque and the cultural center was originally developed by Dušan Džamonja in cooperation with Branko Vučinović and Darko Vlahović. The entire project costed 76 million Croatian kuna with significant contribution by the state of Qatar. Croatian media described the building as one of the most beautiful mosques in Europe. The mosque is a part of the Islamic Cultural Center which was built on the 10,816 square meters plot and which itself covers 5,291 square meters (3,612 square meters of closed space). Croatia is a predominantly Christian country, with Islam being a minority faith. It is followed by 1.3% of the country's population according to the 2021 census. Islam was first introduced to Croatia by the Ottoman Empire during the Croatian–Ottoman Wars that lasted from the 15th to 16th century. During this period some parts of the Croatian Kingdom were occupied which resulted in some Croats converting to Islam, some after being taken prisoners of war, some through the devşirme system.
