Zackary Medeiros
Zackary Medeiros (born October 22, 1990) is a professional Canadian football placekicker and punter who is currently a free agent. He most recently played for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. He was originally drafted 48th overall by the Edmonton Eskimos in the 2014 CFL Draft. He won his first Grey Cup championship while playing for the Ottawa Redblacks in the 104th Grey Cup game. College and junior career Medeiros played for the Montreal Carabins for the 2010 and 2011 seasons before moving back to London, Ontario to play for the London Beefeaters of the Canadian Junior Football League. He had a strong season in 2013, which led to him being drafted into the Canadian Football League. After attending training camp with the Edmonton Eskimos, Medeiros transferred to the Western Mustangs football program for the 2014 season, making 20 of 25 field goal attempts and punting 42 times for an average of 39.7 yards per punt. Punter (football)
A punter (P) in gridiron football is a special teams player who receives the snapped ball directly from the line of scrimmage and then punts (kicks) the football to the opposing team so as to limit any field position advantage. This generally happens on a fourth down in American football and a third down in Canadian football. Punters may also occasionally take part in fake punts in those same situations, when they throw or run the football instead of punting. Skills and usage The purpose of the punt is to force the team that is receiving the kick to start as far as possible from the kicking team's end zone. Accordingly, the most effective punts land just outside the receiving team's end zone and land either out of bounds (making it impossible to advance the ball until the next play) or after being kicked exceptionally high (allowing the kicking team time to run down the field and prevent the punt returner from advancing the ball). 2014 CFL Draft
The 2014 CFL Draft took place on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 7:00 PM ET on TSN. 65 players were chosen from among eligible players from Canadian Universities across the country, as well as Canadian players playing in the NCAA. A total of 19 trades were made involving draft picks from this year, including six made on draft day itself, with five involving picks from the first round. The Ottawa Redblacks were scheduled to pick first in each round of the 2013 CFL Draft, and were supposed to have two bonus picks at the end of the draft. Due to stadium delays, Ottawa will join the Canadian Football League in 2014, and those stipulations will be applied to this year's draft instead.
