ZM Christchurch
ZM Christchurch (previously 3ZM, Radio Nova, ZMFM and 91ZM) is a hit music radio station in Christchurch, New Zealand. It is a station of the ZM network, and is owned and operated by New Zealand Media and Entertainment. History Early years The ZM station in Christchurch has a history dating back to 1963 as local station 3ZM which originally broadcast on 1400AM. The station was started by the New Zealand government owned Radio New Zealand (which at the time was known as the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation). In 1973 3ZM was joined with 1YD Auckland and 2ZM in Wellington to form to youth orientated ZM network, 1YD became 1ZM. In 1978, in a bid to compete against local Christchurch station Radio Avon 3ZM was rebranded as ''Radio Nova'' (coincidentally 'Avon' spelt backwards) playing an Easy Listening format similar to that of Radio i in Auckland. Christchurch ( ; mi, Ōtautahi) is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Canterbury Region. Implosion Of Radio Network House
The implosion of Radio Network House in 2012 was the first implosion used in New Zealand to demolish a building, and was a "test case" for the potential to use such a demolition method on similar buildings in Christchurch Central City that had been damaged in the 2011 earthquake. Like most other large buildings in central Christchurch, Radio Network House was damaged beyond repair in the 2011 earthquake, and the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) added it to the demolition list in August 2011. In July 2012, it was announced that the building was going to be imploded, involving a specialist company from the United States with considerable experience in this type of work. 2011 Christchurch Earthquake
A major earthquake occurred in Christchurch on Tuesday 22 February 2011 at 12:51 p.m. local time (23:51 UTC, 21 February). The () earthquake struck the entire of the Canterbury region in the South Island, centred south-east of the central business district. It caused widespread damage across Christchurch, killing 185 people, in New Zealand's fifth-deadliest disaster. Christchurch's central city and eastern suburbs were badly affected, with damage to buildings and infrastructure already weakened by the magnitude 7.1 Canterbury earthquake of 4 September 2010 and its aftershocks. Phil Gifford
Philip Douglas Gifford (born 1947) is a New Zealand sportswriter and broadcaster. He has his own rugby radio show ''Front Row'' on Radio Sport from 8 to 10am on Saturdays. He writes a weekly column in the country's highest circulation weekend paper, ''The Sunday Star-Times'', and is a contributing editor to '' North & South'' magazine. He created the satirical rugby character Loosehead Len in 1973, and has seven books under that name.
