Yves Tumor
Sean Bowie, best known by the recording alias Yves Tumor, is an American musician and producer of experimental music, born in Miami, Florida and currently based in Turin, Italy. To date, they have released four studio albums: ''When Man Fails You'' (2015), ''Serpent Music'' (2016), ''Safe in the Hands of Love'' (2018) and ''Heaven to a Tortured Mind'' (2020). Life and career Raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Tumor started making music at age 16 as an outlet away from "dull, conservative surroundings." They taught themself to play drums, bass, guitar, and keyboards. Describing their experience growing up in Tennessee as unpleasant, Yves moved at age 20 to San Diego, and then after college, to Los Angeles. They met Mykki Blanco in 2012, later touring for two and a half years throughout Europe and Asia. Experimental Music
Experimental music is a general label for any music or music genre that pushes existing boundaries and genre definitions. Experimental compositional practice is defined broadly by exploratory sensibilities radically opposed to, and questioning of, institutionalized compositional, performing, and aesthetic conventions in music. Chillwave
Chillwave (originally considered synonymous with glo-fi and hypnagogic pop) is a music microgenre that emerged in the late 2000s. It loosely emulates 1980s electropop while engaging with notions of memory and nostalgia. Common features include a faded or dreamy retro pop sound, escapist lyrics (frequent topics include the beach or summer), psychedelic or lo-fi aesthetics, mellow vocals, slow-to-moderate tempos, effects processing (especially reverb), and vintage synthesizers. Chillwave was one of the first music genres to develop primarily through the Internet. The term was coined in 2009 by the satirical blog Hipster Runoff to lampoon microgenres and indie acts whose sounds resembled incidental music from 1980s VHS tapes. ''Safe in the Hands of Love'' is the third studio album by American experimental electronic music artist Yves Tumor. It was released on September 5, 2018 by Warp Records. Release Tumor released "Noid" as the first single from the album on July 24, 2018, and followed it with "Licking an Orchid" featuring James K on August 29, and "Lifetime" on September 3. They shared the track "Economy of Freedom" the following day, and surprise released the album digitally the next day with no prior announcement. It is its first album released on Warp Records. Physical editions were released on October 12. Composition Musical style Tumor's former tracks had nestled themselves into the realms of ambient, noise and sound collage. ''Serpent Music'' is the second studio album by American experimental musician and record producer Yves Tumor. It was released on September 23, 2016 on PAN record label. Background and style ''Serpent Music'' was recorded over a three-year period in Miami, Leipzig, Los Angeles and Berlin. The record was originally titled as ''God Fearing''; Tumor was inspired by personal relationships and spiritual themes, as well as Motown and soul music that Tumor's father used to play during their youth.
