Yuan Wenqing
Yuan Wenqing (; born 1966) is a retired professional wushu taolu athlete from Shanxi, China. Nicknamed 'the prince of wushu,' he was known for his explosive speed and power, and is still widely regarded as one of the greatest wushu practitioners of all time. It is said that in the sport of wushu, the 1970s belonged to Jet Li, the 1980s to Zhao Changjun, and the 1990s to Yuan Wenqing. Career Early career Yuan started practicing wushu at around the age of eight. In 1978, he joined the Shanxi Provincial Wushu Team and began to train under Pang Lin Tai and later Zhang Ling Mei. Rise to stardom In 1982, he won his first national championship gold medal which was in shuangdao. After having several more national championship victories, he was chosen to compete in the 1989 Asian Wushu Championships where he achieved a gold medal sweep to win the men's all around title. Shanxi
Shanxi (; ; formerly romanised as Shansi) is a landlocked province of the People's Republic of China and is part of the North China region. The capital and largest city of the province is Taiyuan, while its next most populated prefecture-level cities are Changzhi and Datong. Its one-character abbreviation is "" (), after the state of Jin that existed there during the Spring and Autumn period. The name ''Shanxi'' means "West of the Mountains", a reference to the province's location west of the Taihang Mountains. ''Iron Monkey 2'' is a 1996 Hong Kong martial arts film directed by Chao Lu-jiang and featuring action choreography by Yuen Woo-ping. 1993 National Games Of China
The 7th National Games of the People's Republic of China was held from September 4 to September 15, 1993 in Beijing. Qi Yunhui started the Games, to be held every four years one year after the Olympic Games. For the opening ceremony, China's major state leaders including CCP General Secretary Jiang Zemin, Premier Li Peng, and Vice-premier Zhu Rongji were present. The main current games are hosted by Beijing, Sichuan and Qinhuangdao City. A ''gun'' (pronunciation , English approximation: , ) or ''bang'' () is a long Chinese staff weapon used in Chinese martial arts. It is known as one of the four major weapons, along with the ''qiang'' (spear), ''dao'' (sabre), and the ''jian'' (straight sword). It is called, in this group, "The Grandfather of all Weapons". In Vietnam (as a result of Chinese influence), the gun is known as ''côn'' in Vietnamese martial arts. Changquan
Chángquán () refers to a family of external (as opposed to internal) martial arts (kung fu) styles from northern China. The forms of the Long Fist style emphasize fully extended kicks and striking techniques, and by appearance would be considered a long-range fighting system. In some Long Fist styles the motto is that "the best defense is a strong offense," in which case the practitioner launches a preemptive attack so aggressive that the opponent doesn't have the opportunity to attack. Others emphasize defense over offense, noting that nearly all techniques in Long Fist forms are counters to attacks. Long Fist uses large, extended, circular movements to improve overall body mobility in the muscles, tendons, and joints. Chinese Wushu Association
The Chinese Wushu Association (CWA) is the governing body of wushu in all of its forms throughout China. Since its founding in 1958, it has been credited with the development and standardization of modern wushu and sanda throughout the world. History The Central Guoshu Institute was created in 1928 by the Kuomintang as a means of standardizing the practice of wushu throughout China. It closed in 1948 due to a lack of funding.
