York Cricket Club
York Cricket Club is an English amateur cricket club based in York. The club became a founding member of the Yorkshire Cricket League in 1935. The club also has three teams in the York and District Senior Cricket League. York Cricket Club won the ECB National Club Cricket Championship in 1975 and 2012. The club coach is former Yorkshire and England player Jim Love. The club is based at Clifton Park. The site also houses York Squash Club, York Tennis Club, and York Rugby Football Union Club which together form the York Sports Club. On 17 June 2019, their ground hosted the 2019 County Championship game between Yorkshire and Warwickshire. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Yorkshire ECB County Premier League
The Yorkshire ECB County Premier League was the top level of competition for recreational club cricket in Yorkshire, England, and between 1999 and 2015 was a designated ECB Premier League. The competing teams in 2015, which was the league's last season, were: Appleby Frodingham, Barnsley, Castleford, Cleethorpes, Doncaster Town, Driffield Town, Harrogate, Hull, Rotherham Town, Sheffield Collegiate, Sheffield United, York, and Yorkshire CCC Academy. ECB National Club Cricket Championship
The ECB National Club Cricket Championship is a forty over limited overs knockout club cricket competition in England. The most successful clubs have been Scarborough, from North Yorkshire, with five titles and Old Hill, from Staffordshire, with four. The 2019 champions were Swardeston, after they beat Nantwich by 53 runs in the final; the competition was not played in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The competition was originally only open to "senior" cricket sides (sides playing in the senior county leagues) and in 1972 the National Village Cup competition was formed for village sides unable to enter this competition. Yorkshire County Cricket Club
Yorkshire County Cricket Club is one of 18 first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Yorkshire. Yorkshire are the most successful team in English cricketing history with 33 County Championship titles, including one shared. Jim Love (cricketer)
James Derek Love (born 22 April 1955) is a former English first-class cricketer, who played in three One Day Internationals for England in 1981. He played in 247 first-class cricket matches for Yorkshire from 1975 to 1989, as well as representing the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), Lincolnshire, the Minor Counties and Scotland. Life and career Love was tipped for stardom but like the player he most resembled, John Hampshire his Yorkshire teammate, he never quite fulfilled his potential on the national stage. A tall, fair haired middle order batsman, he was particularly strong on the front foot, and a powerful driver of the ball. He played for Yorkshire between 1975 and 1989, and twice passed a thousand runs for a first-class season. He averaged 31.09 in 250 matches, in which he scored 10,355 runs with a best of 170 not out. 2019 County Championship
The 2019 County Championship, known for sponsorship reasons as the 2019 Specsavers County Championship, was the 120th cricket County Championship season. As in 2018, Division One had eight teams and Division Two had ten teams. The first round of matches began on 5 April and the final round of matches ended on 26 September. Surrey were the defending champions. At the end of the 2019 season only one team was relegated with three promoted. Warwickshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Warwickshire. The 2021 Royal London One-Day Cup tournament was a limited overs cricket competition that formed part of the 2021 English cricket season in England and Wales. Matches were contested over 50 overs per side, having List A cricket status, with all eighteen County cricket#First-class counties, first-class counties competing in the tournament. The tournament started on 22 July 2021, with the final taking place on 19 August 2021 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
