''Yomeddine'' ( arz, يوم الدين) (English: ''Judgement Day'') is a 2018 Egyptian drama film directed by Abu Bakr Shawky based on friendship relations. It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. At Cannes, it won the François Chalais Prize. It was selected as the Egyptian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. List Of Submissions To The 91st Academy Awards For Best Foreign Language Film
This is a list of submissions to the 91st Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2017 and 30 September 2018. 2018 Cannes Film Festival
The 71st annual Cannes Film Festival was held from 8 to 19 May 2018. Australian actress Cate Blanchett acted as President of the Jury. The Japanese film ''Shoplifters'', directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, won the Palme d'Or. Asghar Farhadi's psychological thriller '' Everybody Knows'', starring Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz and Ricardo Darín, opened the festival and competed in the Main Competition section. It was the second Spanish-language film to open Cannes, following Pedro Almodóvar's '' Bad Education'', which screened on the opening night of the 2004 festival. Egypt has submitted films for consideration for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1958, when Youssef Chahine's ''Cairo Station'' became both the first African and the first Arab film to contend for the award. François Chalais Prize
The François Chalais Prize ( French: ''Prix François Chalais'') is awarded at two main events, the Cannes Film Festival (since 1997) and the Young Reporters' Awards (since 1999). It was created to pay tribute to French journalist and film historian François Chalais, under the auspices of his wife Mei Chen. It rewards a film dedicated to the values of life affirmation and of journalism, and highlights the presence of journalists at Cannes itself. It has also offered awards for the Film Festival of Sarlat (2006–2009), and for the Scénario Honfleur (2006–2009).
