Yevgeny Sadovyi
Yevgeny Viktorovich Sadovyi (russian: Евгений Викторович Садовый; born 19 January 1973) is a retired Russian freestyle swimmer who won three gold medals at the 1992 Summer Olympics at Barcelona and was subsequently chosen by ''Swimming World magazine'' as the Male World Swimmer of the Year. Career Born in Volzhsky, Volgograd Oblast, Sadovyi started swimming at the age of six. In 1981, his family moved to Volgograd, and two years later, young Yevgeny started to train for the international competitions. In 1991, at the European Championship in Athens, Yevgeny Sadovyi was a gold medallist in the 400 m and 4×200 m relay, both freestyle. In 1992 at Barcelona, the 19-year-old Sadovyi revealed as the strongest swimmer of the Olympic games, winning three gold medals and setting two world records in the 400 m freestyle and 4×200 m freestyle relay for his team. Volzhsky or Volzhskiy ( rus, Волжский, p=ˈvolʂskʲɪj) is an industrial town in Volgograd Oblast, Russia, located on the east bank of the Volga River and its distributary the Akhtuba River, Akhtuba, northeast of Volgograd. Tamás Darnyi
Tamás Darnyi (born 3 June 1967 in Budapest) is a Hungarian retired male swimmer. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest medley swimmers in history. He won four gold medals at two Olympic Games (1988 and 1992) and was unbeaten in the individual medley events from 1985 until his retirement in 1993. He is the first swimmer ever to swim the 200 m medley (long course) in less than 2 minutes. ''Swimming World'' Swimmers of the Year is awarded by the American-based ''Swimming World''. There are seven categories: World Swimmer, American Swimmer, European Swimmer, Pacific Rim Swimmer, World Disabled Swimmer, African Swimmer, and Open Water Swimmer of year. The first world record in the men's 400 metres freestyle in long course (50 metres) swimming was recognised by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) in 1908. In the short course (25 metres) swimming events the world's governing body recognizes world records since 3 March 1991.
