The Rock, New South Wales
The Rock is a town with a population of 1,236, in the Riverina region of southern New South Wales, Australia, in Lockhart Shire. It is south-west of Wagga Wagga on the Olympic Highway. The town is named after the large rocky hill overlooking the town, now called ''The Rock Hill'' but called ''Yerong'' in the local indigenous language. The reserve that includes The Rock Hill is an attraction in the area for bush-walking, rock-climbing, and observation of wildlife. It is also an Aboriginal sacred site, called ''Kengal''. History The Rock Post Office opened on 1 September 1890. Prior to 1919, the town had been known as ''Kingston'', probably named for the King family which had operated the farm property known as "The Rock". Yerong Creek Railway Station
Yerong Creek is a closed railway station on the Main Southern railway line, New South Wales, Main South railway line in New South Wales, Australia. The station opened in 1880 and consisted of a weatherboard station building and signal box. The platform buildings were demolished in the 1980s and only a low platform remains at the site. Layout The station opened with a crossing loop of about 400m length. In 2010, the crossing loop was extended into a 7 km Passing loop#Simultaneous crosses and passing lanes, passing lane. Exceptionally this passing lane has intermediate home signals protecting a level crossing and some wheat sidings which have the effect of allowing the passing lane to hold two trains in one direction. Henty Railway Station
Henty railway station is heritage-listed railway station located on the Main South line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the town of Henty. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History Henty station opened in 1880 as Doodle Cooma. It was renamed Henty on 4 February 1891, and relocated to its present site in 1904. Opposite the platform lies a passing loop. Services Henty is served by two daily NSW TrainLink XPT services in each direction operating between Sydney and Melbourne. The Rock Railway Station
The Rock railway station is a heritage-listed railway station and antique shop located on the Main South line in The Rock in the Lockhart Shire local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The station is also known as The Rock Station and yard group. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The Rock railway station opened on 1 September 1880 as Hanging Rock when the Main South line was extended from Wagga Wagga to Gerogery. It was renamed Kingston on 28 December 1882, and finally The Rock on 10 February 1883. On 8 July 1901, The Rock became a junction station with the opening of the Oaklands line as far as Lockhart.
