The Rock railway station is a heritage-listed railway station and antique shop located on the Main South line in The Rock in the Lockhart Shire local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The station is also known as The Rock Station and yard group. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The Rock railway station opened on 1 September 1880 as Hanging Rock when the Main South line was extended from Wagga Wagga to Gerogery. It was renamed Kingston on 28 December 1882, and finally The Rock on 10 February 1883. On 8 July 1901, The Rock became a junction station with the opening of the Oaklands line as far as Lockhart. It gained a locomotive depot and carriage shed at the same time. Olympic Highway is a rural road in the central western and south-eastern Riverina regions of New South Wales, Australia. The highway services rural communities and links Hume Highway with Mid-Western Highway and provides part of an alternate road link between Sydney and via and as well as servicing Wagga Wagga, linking with Sturt Highway. Lockhart, New South Wales
Lockhart is a town in the Riverina Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is the location of the Lockhart Shire Council offices. At the 2016 census, Lockhart had a population of 818 people. History Lockhart was named after C.G.N. Lockhart - a commissioner for Crown Lands in the Murrumbidgee River area in the 1850s. It was originally known as Greens Gunyah, and renamed Lockhart in 1897. Greens Gunyah was so named because a Mr Green was the earliest settler and had a grog shop on the Urana - Wagga Wagga stagecoach route. Ferriers Post Office opened on 16 May 1882 and was renamed Lockhart in 1898. In 1915, the Lockhart - Roll of Honour was unveiled, with 86 locals enlisted in National Service. The New South Wales ''XPT'' (short for eXpress Passenger Train) is a class of diesel-powered passenger trains built by Comeng and ABB Transportation. Holbrook Railway Line
The Culcairn to Holbrook railway line is a short, closed, railway line in New South Wales, Australia. The line ran from the Main South railway line at Culcairn for 26 km east to the town of Holbrook. Construction Following the line from Culcairn to Corowa being completed in 1892, the locals of Germanton campaigned hard for their own railway line. The line was authorised early in 1901 with surveying being worked on up until March. Tenders for supplies were accepted from April through June with construction starting in July. The line opened on 18 September 1902. Holbrook was, at that time, known as Germanton. Rand Railway Line
The Rand railway line is a closed railway line in New South Wales, Australia. The line ran for 53 km south-west to the town of Rand from the Main South railway line at Henty. Proposals In 1908, a petition was handed to the Minister for Public Works requesting the construction of a railway from Yerong Creek to Daysdale, via Pleasant Hills. By October that year, a survey had been conducted and it was recommended that a line from Henty was preferable. A further deputation was made to the Minister on 10 November 1910 and he suggested that an unballasted line could be acceptable to Government. Eleven months later, on 25 October 1911, the Minister for Public Works recommended that the line be referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works.
