Yen Chia-kan
Yen Chia-kan (; 23 October 1905 – 24 December 1993), also known as C. K. Yen, was a Kuomintang politician. He succeeded Chiang Kai-shek as President of the Republic of China on 5 April 1975, being sworn in on 6 April 1975, and served out the remainder of Chiang's term until 20 May 1978. Early life He was born in Mudu, Wu County, Jiangsu province in 1905. He came of a prestigious Suzhou family, the Yan (Yen) Family of Dongshan (). He graduated from Saint John's University in Shanghai with a degree in chemistry in 1926. Political career In 1931, Yen began serving as a manager of the Shanghai railway administration. Yen started to work as director of the finance department of Fujian Provincial Government in 1938. During his term, he initiated a policy of land tax payment for farmers with their agricultural produce. President Of The Republic Of China
The president of the Republic of China, now often referred to as the president of Taiwan, is the head of state of the Republic of China (ROC), as well as the commander-in-chief of the Republic of China Armed Forces. The position once had authority of ruling over Mainland China, but its remaining jurisdictions has been limited to Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu and other smaller islands since the conclusion of Second Chinese Civil War. Reformed Government Of The Republic Of China
The Reformed Government of the Republic of China was a Chinese puppet state created by Japan that existed from 1938 to 1940 during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The regime had little authority or popular support, nor did it receive international recognition even from Japan itself, lasting only two years before it was merged with the Provisional Government into the Reorganized National Government of the Republic of China under Wang Jingwei. Yan Jiachi
Yan Jiachi (; 1885–1952) was a politician in the end of Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. He was a local official in the Qing and the Beijing Government. In the end, he became an important politician in the Reformed Government of the Republic of China and the Wang Jingwei regime (Republic of China-Nanjing). His courtesy name was Mengfan (). Wu County
Wu County or Wuxian (; 221 B.C. – December 2000) is a former county and city located in modern Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Its name refers to its former status as the capital of the state of Wu during the Spring and Autumn period. History In 221 BC, Emperor Qin Shi Huang established Wu County as the capital of Kuaiji Commandery. The city itself was often known as Kuaiji from this role, prior to return of Kuaiji's administration to present-day Shaoxing on the southern shore of Hangzhou Bay. Mudu
Mudu (; Suzhou Wu: Moh doh, ) is a town in Wuzhong District, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. It takes about 1.5 hours to drive from the downtown in Suzhou to Mudu. Mudu is a small town which is famous for its history. During the Qing dynasty, the Qianlong Emperor visited Mudu six times when he traveled around the country. Nowadays, many teleplay groups also come to Mudu frequently to film television series. Liu Chi-chun
Liu Chi-chun (; 1908-1999) was the First Lady of the Republic of China (Taiwan) from 1975 until 1978 as the wife of Yen Chia-kan, former President of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Biography Liu Chi-chun was born at Suzhou, and her family was one of the four prominent families in Suzhou. She was the distant cousin of her later husband Yen Chia-kan. The first wife of Yen Chia-kan died in 1923 because of obstructed labour. After that, Yen continued to follow the choice of his parents to marry her at 24 December 1924. She put much effort into looking after her new family, and she had nine children (five sons and four daughters). She and her husband were low-profile, so that their reputation were lower than other presidents and first ladies of the Republic of China (ROC). Wuzhi Mountain Military Cemetery
The Wuzhi Mountain Military Cemetery (, sometimes romanized as ''Wuchih'') is Taiwan's most prominent military cemetery. The cemetery is located on Wuzhi Mountain () at an elevation of in Xizhi, New Taipei City and borders Taipei City's Neihu District and Yangmingshan National Park. The cemetery has a wide open view ranging from the Taipei 101 over at Taipei's Xinyi District to the Keelung Harbor.
