Yaumatei Ferry Pier () (1924–1933) was a ferry pier at the junction of Public Square Street and Ferry Street (now Prosperous Garden) in Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The seaside outside Ferry Street is now reclaimed. Another pier, at the other end of the company's main route, in Central, was known as HYF pier, for 'Hong Kong and Yaumatei Ferry'. History Since the Hong Kong and Yaumati Ferry Company began service between Yau Ma Tei and Central in 1923, Yaumatei Ferry Pier started operation on 1 January 1924. In 1933, the Ferry Company developed its vehicular ferry service, but the pier was too small for vehicular ferries. Public Square Street (; formerly ) is a street in Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Location The street runs in an east-west alignment from Cliff Road to Ching Ping Street (), meeting Nathan Road, Temple Street, Shanghai Street, Reclamation Street and Canton Road in its course. History The street was built in 1887. Its original name in Chinese was (''Kung Chong Sze Fong Kai'' in Cantonese), a mistranslation that resulted from the word ''square'' being misinterpreted as a geometric shape. The more accurate translation of (''Chung Fong Kai'' in Cantonese language) was adopted in 1976. A large-scale reclamation was carried out in Yau Ma Tei between 1900 and 1904, between today's Reclamation Street and Ferry Street. Public Square Street was extended to Ferry Street accordingly. Jordan Road Ferry Pier or Ferry Point (1924–1998) () is a demolished pier originally located at Jordan Road, Hong Kong, Jordan Road, Jordan, Hong Kong. History After Hongkong and Yaumati Ferry gained the franchise to operate part of the cross harbour ferry routes, including the Central, Hong Kong, Central – Yau Ma Tei route, starting from 1 January 1924, the company set up Yaumatei Ferry Pier at Public Square Street for its ferry operations. In 1933, a new vehicular ferry route from Central to Yau Ma Tei was started, and Jordan Road Ferry Pier was built to handle vehicular ferries. Original ferry operations also moved to the new pier. A new bus terminus was built outside the pier.
