Yasemin Can
Yasemin Can (born Vivian Jemutai on December 11, 1996) is a Kenyan female long distance runner representing Turkey who specialises in the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres. She is the reigning European 10,000 m champion. Can is a five-time European Championship medallist, including three gold medals and the 5000m/10,000m double in 2016, and a four-time European Cross Country champion. She competed for Kenya before 13 March 2016, when she officially became eligible to represent Turkey at international competitions. Can is a member of Enkaspor club in Istanbul. Career Can earned a quota spot for the women's 5000 m event in the 2016 Summer Olympics running 15:08.46 in the Turkish Indoor Championships in Istanbul. She secured another quota spot for 10,000 m event running 31:30.58 at the Turkish Championships in Mersin. She set a new European under-23 record with her time. 2016 European Cross Country Championships
The 2016 European Cross Country Championships was the 23rd edition of the cross country running competition for European athletes. It was hosted in Chia, Italy. Aras Kaya won the men's senior title, making it three straight victories for Turkey in that event, following in the footsteps of fellow Kenyan-Turkish runners Polat Kemboi Arıkan and Ali Kaya. Yasemin Can, became Turkey's first senior women's winner and also led her nation to the team title. Great Britain were the most successful in the team races, claiming the senior men's, under-23 women's and junior women's titles; the country reached the podium in all categories. The 2016 edition saw increased Kenyan dominance at the competition, with the top two runners in both senior races being Kenyan-born, as well as the men's under-23 winner.

European Cross Country Championships
The European Cross Country Championships is an annual international cross country running competition. Organised by the European Athletic Association, it is the area championships for the region and is held in December each year. The championships was inaugurated in 1994 in Alnwick and the venue for the championships changes each year. Unlike the World Championships for the sport, the European Cross Country Championships consists of six races in age categories, with separate senior, under-23, and junior races for both men and women. The European Athletics U23 Championships is a biennial athletics competition for European athletes under the age of 23, which is organized by the European Athletic Association. Oran was announced as the host city at the ICMG General Assembly in Pescara, Italy, on 15 August 2015. 3,390 athletes took part in the games. Bidding process Five cities signed an official declaration of candidacy for hosting the 2021 Mediterranean Games, two from Africa and three from Europe: The final candidates were Oran and Sfax. Oran planned to take the Games to Algeria for the second time after the 1975 Mediterranean Games in Algiers.
