2017 European Cross Country Championships
The 2017 European Cross Country Championships was the 24th edition of the cross country running competition for European athletes. It was hosted in Šamorín Šamorín (; hu, Somorja, german: Sommerein) is a small town in western Slovakia, southeast of Bratislava. Etymology The name is derived from a patron saint of a local church Sancta Maria, mentioned for the first time as ''villa Sancti Marie'' ..., Slovakia. As of the 2017 edition, the first three athletes from each nation counted towards the team standings, rather than the top four of previous years. The European Athletic Association (more commonly known as European Athletics) is the governing body for Sport of athletics, athletics in Europe. Meraf Bahta
Meraf Bahta Ogbagaber (born 24 June 1989) is an Eritrean middle-distance runner. She represents Sweden in international competitions and specializes in the 1500 metres and 3000 metres. Biography She was born in Dekishahay, Eritrea (at the time still part of Ethiopia). As a junior, she competed in the junior races at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, finishing twelfth in 2006 and sixth in 2007. Together with her teammates she won the silver medal in the team event at the 2007 championships. She finished fifth in the 1500 metres at the 2006 World Junior Championships. At the 2007 All-Africa Games she finished seventh in the 5000 metres. She competed in her first senior cross-country race at the 2008 World Cross Country Championships, but only finished 43rd. Thomas Benjamin Lancashire (born 2 July 1985 in Bolton, Greater Manchester) is an English middle-distance runner. Lancashire represented Great Britain at the 2008 Summer Olympics in the 1500 m. Tom is a life member of Bolton Harriers and regularly races in club colours. Lancashire studied exercise science at Florida State University. Biography He went to Turton School in Bromley Cross, Bolton. He is a talented all round sportsman having previously taken part in many sports including football, swimming, cricket, ice hockey and snowboarding. Ben Connor (born 17 October 1992) is a British runner who won the Night of 10,000m PBs event at the 2019 British Athletics Championships and the 2017 English National Cross Country Championships. Connor competed in the Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's marathon, marathon event at the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Career Connor is a member of Derby Athletics Club. Ayad Lamdassem (born October 11, 1981) is a Moroccan-born long distance runner who competes for Spain internationally. He has represented Spain twice in the 10,000 metres at the Summer Olympics (2008 and 2012) as well as the European Athletics Championships (2010, 2012). Lamdassem has competed at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships on five occasions (once for Morocco and four times for Spain). He was the silver medallist at the European Cross Country Championships in 2010 and 2011. He was also a gold medallist at the 2010 Ibero-American Championships in Athletics. Aras Kaya (born Amos Kibitok on 4 April 1994 in Kenya) is a Turkish suspended long-distance runner. He won the silver medal in the 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2016 European Athletics Championships. Kaya earned four individual medals at the European Cross Country Championships, including two golds. Miriam Dattke (born 24 June 1998) is a German long-distance runner. She won the silver medal in the 10,000 metres at the 2019 European Under-23 Championships.
