2016 European Cross Country Championships
The 2016 European Cross Country Championships was the 23rd edition of the cross country running competition for European athletes. It was hosted in Chia, Italy. Aras Kaya won the men's senior title, making it three straight victories for Turkey in that event, following in the footsteps of fellow Kenyan-Turkish runners Polat Kemboi Arıkan and Ali Kaya. Yasemin Can, became Turkey's first senior women's winner and also led her nation to the team title. Great Britain were the most successful in the team races, claiming the senior men's, under-23 women's and junior women's titles; the country reached the podium in all categories. The 2016 edition saw increased Kenyan dominance at the competition, with the top two runners in both senior races being Kenyan-born, as well as the men's under-23 winner.

Adel Mechaal
Adel Mechaal (born 5 December 1990) is a Morocco-born Spanish middle- and long-distance runner. In the 1500 metres, he placed fourth at the 2017 World Championships, and fifth at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Over the 3000 and 5000 metres, Mechaal is a four-time European Championship medallist. He also won two medals for the men's senior races at the European Cross Country Championships. Alper Demir
Alper Demir is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey. He was named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2012 for his contributions to stochastic modeling and analysis of phase noise. Education and career After graduating from Ankara Science High School in 1987, Demir studied electrical engineering at Bilkent University, where he got his B.S. in 1991, and then immigrated to the United States where he received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994 and 1997, respectively. Prior to getting to a full career at Koç University, Demir worked on some summer jobs in Motorola (1995) and Cadence Design Systems (1996). He then joined Bell Labs, serving there from 1997 to 2000 and until 2002 worked at CeLight. Stefano La Rosa
Stefano La Rosa (born 28 September 1985 in Grosseto) is an Italian long distance runner. He is a five-time Italian champion (twice over 10,000 metres and three times over 5000 metres). Biography Of Sicilian descent, as a junior athlete, he came 52nd at the 2003 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. He came 16th over 5000 metres at the 2004 World Junior Championships in Athletics, but managed a 1500 metres/5000 m double at the Italian junior championships. He won a team silver medal in the under-23 section of the 2006 European Cross Country Championships, courtesy of his tenth-place finish. He improved to fifth place in this category at the 2007 European race. Senior success came two years later in the form of a 5000 m silver medal at the 2009 Mediterranean Games in Pescara and a team bronze medal at the 2009 European Cross Country Championships alongside Daniele Meucci.

Morhad Amdouni
Morhad Amdouni (born 21 June 1988) is a French middle- and long-distance runner. He won the gold medal in the 10,000 metres and bronze for the 5000 metres at the 2018 European Athletics Championships. Amdouni was the European under-20 champion in track (5000 m) and cross country running in 2007. He is a two-time French national champion. Ben Connor (born 17 October 1992) is a British runner who won the Night of 10,000m PBs event at the 2019 British Athletics Championships and the 2017 English National Cross Country Championships. Connor competed in the Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's marathon, marathon event at the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Career Connor is a member of Derby Athletics Club. Sondre Nordstad Moen (born 12 January 1991) is a Norwegian long-distance runner. He set a European record in marathon in 2017 when winning the Fukuoka Marathon, a record he held for ten months. He has also held European records in 25,000 metres, and in one hour run. Personal life Nordstad Moen was born in Trondheim on 12 January 1991. Abdi-Hakin Achkel Ulad (born 14 June 1991 in Kismayo Town, Somalia) is a Danish track and field athlete competing in long-distance running (5,000 metres, 10,000 metres, half marathons and marathons). Ulad represented Denmark at the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Olympics. As of 2022, he is currently suspended following a failed drug test.
