Yagub Mammadov (singer)
Yagub Mammad oghlu Mammadov ( az, Yaqub Məmməd oğlu Məmmədov, 5 May 1930 — 5 June 2002) was an Azerbaijani khananda, or mugham singer. Biography Yagub Mammadov was born on 5 May 1930 in Aghjabadi District. In 1956 he came to Baku for the Republican Youth Festival and became a laureate of the festival. Then he was invited to the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall. Yagub Mammadov had been working at the Philharmonic since 1958 and at the same time was studying in the class of Seyid Shushinski at the Asaf Zeynalli Music College. Yagub Mammadov was a soloist at the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall for many years and performed at concerts. His mugham performances, recorded on gramophone shafts, have spread throughout the Middle East. Mammadov died on 5 June 2002 in Baku. Aghjabadi District
Aghjabadi District ( az, Ağcabədi rayonu) is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the centre of the country and belongs to the Aran Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Khojavend, Agdam, Barda, Zardab, Beylagan, and Fuzuli. Its capital and largest city is Aghjabadi. As of 2020, the district had a population of 136,800. History Aghjabadi District was established on 8 August 1930. It was abolished and attached to the Agdam District in 1963. Two years later, it was re-established as an independent district. "Aghjabadi" means "large settlement" ("aghja" – large, "badi" – residence, settlement) in Azerbaijani. The ancient monuments discovered on the territory of Aghjabadi rayon attest to human habitation dating to the Eneolithic, Bronze Age periods. Seyid Shushinski
Seyid Shushinski ( az, Seyid Şuşinski), born Mir Mohsun Seyid Ibrahim oglu Shushinski (12 April 1889, Horadiz – 1 November 1965, Baku), was an Azerbaijani khananda folk singer. Early career He was born in the small town of Horadiz, near present-day Fizuli, Azerbaijan. He lost his father at a young age, and was raised by his aunt Meshadi Khurzad who was a folk singer. Shushinski received primary education at a religious school in his hometown. Thanks to his musical talent, he joined his first musical ensemble at the age of 15. He made his first public performance in 1908 in Shusha, which proved to be a great success and brought the 19-year-old singer big fame in the city. At his uncle's insistence, Shushinski completed another 2 years of musical education at Mir Mohsun Navvab's school and was recognized as a professional khananda.
