Yusuf Al-Azmah
Yusuf al-Azma ( ar, يوسف العظمة, ALA-LC: ''Yūsuf al-ʻAẓmah''; 1883 – 24 July 1920) was the Syrian minister of war in the governments of prime ministers Rida al-Rikabi and Hashim al-Atassi, and the Arab Army's chief of general staff under King Faisal. He served as minister of war from January 1920 until his death while commanding Syrian forces against a French invasion during the Battle of Maysalun. Al-Azma hailed from a wealthy Damascene landowning family. He became an officer in the Ottoman Army and fought on multiple fronts in World War I. After the defeated Ottomans withdrew from Damascus, al-Azma served Emir Faisal, the leader of the Arab Revolt, and was appointed minister of war upon the establishment of the Arab government in Damascus in January 1920. Ali Rida Pasha Rikabi ( ar, علي رضا باشا الركابي; 1864 25 May 1943) was the First Prime Minister in modern Syria and was also the 3rd Prime Minister of Jordan. Summary During the last phase of Ottoman rule in the Middle East, Rikabi occupied prominent positions. After the Ottoman Turks departed from Arab lands in 1918, he formed the first cabinet in the history of Syria under Prince Faisal, third son Sharif Hussain of Mecca. Bashir al-Azma (1910–1992) ( ar, بشير العظَمة), was a Syrian doctor and politician. He served as Prime Minister of Syria from 16 April to 14 September 1962. He was born in and raised in the capital Damascus. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Medicine from Damascus University and his graduate in Paris.
