St James is a town in northern Victoria, Australia. The town is located in the Shire of Moira local government area, north of the state capital, Melbourne. At the , St James had a population of 132. The town of St James came into being as a result of selectors taking up land in the district. The first selection of land in the St James area was thought to be in 1870. St James was the location of the first business of G.J Coles, founder of the Coles Group. The town is located the Oaklands railway line that continues to Yarrawonga and across the border to Oaklands in New South Wales. St James Post Office opened on 10 July 1899. Moira Shire Council is a Local Government Area in the Northern Victoria Region of Victoria, Australia. Located in the north-east part of the state, it covers an area of . As at June 2021 the population was 30,018. It includes the towns of Cobram, Nathalia, Numurkah, Tungamah and Yarrawonga. It was formed in 1994 from the amalgamation of the Shire of Cobram, Shire of Nathalia, Shire of Numurkah, and parts of the Shire of Tungamah and Shire of Yarrawonga. The Shire is governed and administered by the Moira Shire Council; its seat of local government and administrative centre is located at the council headquarters in Cobram, it also has a service centre located in Yarrawonga. The Shire is named after the county of Moira, of which the LGA occupies the northern part. Devenish, Victoria
Devenish is a town in northern Victoria, Australia within the Rural City of Benalla local government area, north of the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Devenish and the surrounding area had a population of 360, declining to 197 by 2016. History The Post Office opened on 9 June 1877 as Broken Creek and was renamed Devenish in 1878. In 1883 on the arrival of the railway, the office was moved and named Devenish Railway Station, reverting to Devenish in about 1889 as the township developed. An earlier office dating from 1870, Major Plains, was known as Devenish from 1874 until 1878. The Devenish concrete grain silos were built between the railway line and the main street and opened to receive wheat in December 1943. Later the Bulk Oat storage building was built in 1965. Dookie ( /ˈduːki/) is a town in the Goulburn Valley region of Victoria, Australia. It is situated in a valley between Mount Major and Mount Saddleback. Dookie is a farming community. At the 2021 census, Dookie had a population of 333. Dookie is five minutes by car from Dookie College, jointly managed by the Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE and University of Melbourne since 2005. Dookie has many sporting and community groups as well as a cycling track, the Dookie rail trail. The rail trail was opened by the mayor of Greater Shepparton, Michael Polan, in 2012.
