Yuli Raizman
Yuli Yakovlevich Raizman (russian: Юлий Яковлевич Райзман; December 15, 1903 – December 11, 1994) was a Soviet Union, Soviet Russian people, Russian film director and screenwriter. Career In 1924 he became a literary consultant for Mezhrabpomfilm, Mezhrabpom-Rus, the German-Russian film studio. He was assigned as assistant to Yakov Protazanov in 1925 and made his directorial debut in 1927 with ''The Circle'', first drawing attention the following year with ''Penal Servitude (film), Penal Servitude''. His next success was ''The Earth Thirsts'' in 1930, the Soviet Union's first sound film. He joined Mosfilm in 1931 and in 1937 he won his first USSR State Prize, Stalin Prize (of the Second degree) for ''The Last Night'', which was also his first collaboration with the writer Yevgeny Gabrilovich with whom he worked for the next 40 years. ''Lyotchiki'' (russian: Лётчики, Lyotchiki: ) (aka ''Men on Wings'' and ''The Pilots'') is a 1935 Soviet drama film directed by Yuli Raizman and Grigori Levkoyev. Maxim Gorky called him among the best Soviet filmmakers of that time. Plot School Commander Nikolai Rogachyov (Boris Shchukin) and famous aerobatic pilot, is in charge of a civilian flying school in Russia. Pilot Sergei Belyaev (Ivan Koval-Samborsky), showing recklessness trying to emulate the test pilot Valery Chkalov), crashes the aircraft assigned to him. Student flight school Galya Bystrova (Yevgenia Melnikova), who likes Belyaev, unfortunately, seeks to imitate him in the air. Nika Awards
The Nika Award (sometimes styled NIKA Award) is the main annual national film award in Russia, presented by the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts and Science, and seen as the national equivalent of the Oscars. History The award was established in 1987 in Moscow by Yuli Gusman, and ostensibly modelled on the Oscars. The Russian award takes its name from Nike, the goddess of victory. Accordingly, the prize is modelled after the sculpture of the Winged Victory of Samothrace. The oldest professional film award in Russia, the Nika Award was established during the final years of USSR by the influential Russian Union of Filmmakers.
