''Yukio Akakariyama'' (Japanese , Akakariyama Yukio; born 13 March 1975 in Osaka, Japan) is a Japanese pool player. In 2011, Yukio won the WPA World Nine-ball Championship. Career In November 2008, Akakariyama finished ninth at the Japan Open. In June 2009, he reached the semi-finals of the China Open. A month later, he made it to the final round of the 2009 WPA World Ten-ball Championship , in which he was defeated by the Taiwanese Chao Fong-Pang in the round of the last 64. In February 2010, he reached with the round of 16 at the 2010 French Open his best result on the Euro Tour. In April 2010 he reached the round of 16 of the 2010 WPA World Eight-ball Championship, where he lost to Ruslan Tschinachow. Mark Gray (born 16 August 1973) is an English professional Pool (cue sports), pool player and former professional snooker player. Snooker career Born in 1973, Gray turned professional in 1992. He made little progress in any tournament until the 1997/1998 season, when he reached the last 64 at the German Open - losing 1–5 to Karl Broughton - the last 48 at the Thailand Masters, where Chris Small whitewashed him 5–0, and later made his first appearance in the last 32 at a ranking event, in the 1998 British Open. There, he defeated Jimmy Michie 5–3 and Jimmy White 5–4, but lost 3–5 to Dominic Dale. The following season saw Gray repeat his feat at the British Open, beating Bjorn Haneveer 5–2, Paul Wykes 5–4 and Jamie Burnett 5–3, having trailed Burnett 1–3. The WPA World Nine-ball Championship is an annual professional nine-ball pool tournament contested since 1990. The championship is sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) and principally sponsored and organised by Matchroom Sport, who provide the event's official website branded as World Pool Championship. The championship is divided into men's, women's and wheelchair divisions. History In the summer of 1989, the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) began plans for a world championship tournament. The group sent invitations, rules, sports regulations and by-laws. Reception was positive, and a provisional Board was created. The 2014 WPA World Nine-ball Championship was the 23rd edition of the 9-Ball pool World Championships. It took place from June 16 to 27, 2014 in the al-Attiya Sports Arena of the Al-Arabi Sports Club in Doha. The Qatari capital was the fifth time in a row the venue for the 9-Ball Championships. The 2013 WPA World Nine-ball Championship was the 22nd event in the annual WPA World Nine-ball Championship. The event took place from September 2 to 13, 2013 in Doha, Qatar. Germany's Thorsten Hohmann became world champion by a 13–6 victory over Philippine Antonio Gabica, in the final. This was Hohmann's second 9-ball World championship, having also won the 2003 WPA World Nine-ball Championship. Hohmann defeated defending champion Darren Appleton in an early stage of the event. Format The 128 participating players were divided into 16 groups, in which they competed in a double elimination tournament against each other. The 2013 World Games ( es, Juegos Mundiales 2013), the ninth World Games, were an international multi-sport event held in the city of Cali, Colombia, from July 25 to August 4. Host city allocation history The 2013 World Games were initially allocated to the German cities of Duisburg and Düsseldorf. However, at the end of 2008, Duisburg withdrew and Düsseldorf dropped out because both cities could not secure enough funding, partly as a result of the financial crisis of 2007–08 and the subsequent Great Recession. Two alternate cities came forward to the IWGA to bid for these Games: Pretoria, South Africa and Cali, Colombia.
