Ski mountaineering (abbreviated to skimo) is a skiing discipline that involves climbing mountains either on skis or carrying them, depending on the steepness of the ascent, and then descending on skis. Asian Championships Of Ski Mountaineering
Asian Championships of Ski Mountaineering as multinational ski mountaineering competitions for participants of the Asian continent have been held since 2007. The 2007 Asian Championship was organized by the Japan Mountaineering Association (JMA), and was sanctioned by the International Council for Ski Mountaineering Competitions (ISMC). The second edition followed in China two years later, in 2009, after the Asia Ski Mountaineering Federation (ASMF) was born. It was officially sanctioned by the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF), which emerged from the ISMC in 2008. At this edition a vertical race and a relay race were added. The 2012 Asian Championship of Ski Mountaineering ( ko, 아시아 산악스키 선수권대회) was the third edition of an Asian Championship of Ski Mountaineering, and the second official sanctioned by the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF), The event was organized by the Korea Alpine Federation, and was held at the South Korean Yongpyong Ski Resort in the Gangwon Province from February 18 to 19, 2012. Results Event was held on April February 19, 2012. It was only an individual race offered as at the 2007 edition. Like the European Championship of 2012 the Asian championship did not follow the previous edition in the typical biannual rhythm because the World Championship, which was originally planned for 2012, was moved to the year 2011. Trail Runner
Trail running is a sport-activity which combines running, and, where there are steep gradients, hiking, that is run "on any unpaved surface". It is similar to both mountain and fell running (also known as hill running). Mountain running may, however, include paved sections. Trail running normally takes place in warm climates, or on good paths, or tracks which are relatively easy to follow, and does not necessarily involve the significant amounts of ascent, or need for navigating skills, normal in fell running. Unlike road running and track running it generally takes place on hiking trails, often in mountainous terrain, where there can be much larger ascents and descents. Yongpyong Ski Resort
Yongpyong (Dragon Valley) Ski Resort is a ski resort in South Korea, located in Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do. It is the largest ski and snowboard resort in Korea, and offers golf in the summer months. A 1949 news article covered a ski slope in Daegwallyeong, which had only the ski slope at that time. Yongpyong's first ski lift was built in 1975. In 1981, a Korean company called Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd bought the owner(유국개발) of Yongpyong Resort, and in turn obtained the resort. SsangYong began to experience financial difficulties from the 1997 Asian financial crisis. In 2003, Segye Ilbo, which is owned by the Unification Church, bought Yongpyong Resort.
