Ysgol Y Strade
Ysgol Gyfun y Strade () is a Welsh medium secondary school and sixth form in the town of Llanelli, Wales. It opened in September 1977 as a comprehensive school for boys and girls. As of 2020, there were 1,177 pupils enrolled at the school. The school's motto is "Nid da lle gellir gwell" — literally, (it is) not good where capable of (being) better, i.e. never settle for second-best; or, there is always room for improvement. The current headmaster is Geoff Evans. He took over from the previous headmistress, Heather Lewis, in 2017. Lewis became headmistress in 2009. The school has a successful rugby team which competes in the Rosslyn Park National School Sevens annually. They were runners up to Millfield School in 2003. The school lost in the semi final the National Urdd Sevens Tournament in 2010. Llanelli ("St Elli's Parish"; ) is a market town and the largest community in Carmarthenshire and the preserved county of Dyfed, Wales. It is located on the Loughor estuary north-west of Swansea and south-east of the county town, Carmarthen. The town had a population of 25,168 in 2011, estimated in 2019 at 26,225. The local authority was Llanelli Borough Council when the county of Dyfed existed, but it has been under Carmarthenshire County Council since 1996. Garan Rhys Evans (born 16 February 1973) is a Welsh people, Welsh former rugby union footballer, who played as a Rugby union positions#Full-back, fullback for Llanelli RFC, Llanelli, the Scarlets, Llanelli Scarlets and Wales national rugby union team, Wales. Evans was born in Trimsaran and educated at Ysgol y Strade in Llanelli. Steffan Evans (born 1 September 1994) is a Welsh rugby union player who plays for Scarlets regional team as a fullback and winger, although he has played at centre for Llanelli too. Ceiron Thomas (born 23 October 1983) is a Welsh former rugby union footballer who played for the Scarlets, Leeds Carnegie, Cornish Pirates, and St Ives RFC. Emyr Wyn Huws (born 30 September 1993) is a Welsh professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for the Wales national team.
