Youth Earnestly Ask For Abacha
Youth Earnestly Ask for Abacha (YEAA) was a campaign formed in 1997 to urge General Sani Abacha to self succeed and run for Nigeria's presidency.(Youth Activism: An International Encyclopedia, Volume 2 PAGE 447) The YEAA campaign, led by Daniel Kanu, placed billboards around the country, publicized advertisements in the media and sponsored editorials to encourage support for Abacha. They were also in support of Vision 2010, a projected economic plan for Nigeria to improve economically and socially. Sani Abacha
Sani Abacha (20 September 1943 – 8 June 1998) was a Nigerian military officer and politician who ruled as the military head of state of Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998. He seized power on 17 November 1993 in the last successful coup d'etat in the military history of Nigeria. He was the Chief of Army Staff between 1985 to 1990; Chief of Defence Staff between 1990 to 1993; and Minister of Defence. Abacha became the first Nigerian Army officer to attain the rank of a full military general without skipping a single rank. His rule saw the achievement of several economic feats and also recorded human rights abuses and several political assassinations. Daniel Kanu (born 20 January 1971) is an American-Nigerian politician, entrepreneur and philanthropist. According to a 2014 article in '' News Diary Online'', he became well known throughout Nigeria for his support of General Sani Abacha. He is involved in several businesses in Nigeria and sponsors several organizations dedicated to youth development. Early life and education Kanu was born in Aba, Imo State, now Abia State, and was educated in Nigeria until 1985, when he relocated to Texas in the United States. Vision 2010
{{unreferenced, date=May 2014 Vision 2010 is a projected economic plan for Nigeria to improve economically. Nigeria is a lesser developed country, whose politics have been shaped by chronic military dictatorships, dependence on oil, ethnic and social cleavages, and a population too large to feed. In the creation of Vision 2010, 248 members developed plans that would hopefully guide the country out of poverty and other of these national crisises. Sub-committees worked on solving key issues needed to be resolved. The 2 Million Man March was the culmination of efforts by the group Youth Earnestly Ask for Abacha under the direction of Daniel Kanu. The march took place in Abuja, Nigeria, during 3–4 March 1998. The support of the former military leader Sani Abacha culminated in 1998 with what is now remembered as the two-million-man march, the largest gathering in history of Nigeria. It was coordinated by YEAA and NACYAN.
