Jesse Powell (September 12, 1971 – September 13, 2022) was an American R&B and soul singer. Discovered by Louil Silas Jr., Powell was best known for his hit "You", which peaked at No. 2 on the R&B chart and No. 10 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Powell released four albums and was the older brother of fellow contemporary R&B singers Trina & Tamara. Powell was credited with a four-octave vocal range. He was a Grammy nominee. Life and career Powell was born in Gary, Indiana, and raised with his siblings Trina, Tamara and Jacob. The family performed in local talent shows; and, in 1993, he attracted the attention of producer Carl Roland in Kansas City. Following an artist showcase, Louil Silas signed him to his Silas Records imprint. Three years later, he completed work on his debut album. ''Bout It'' is the second studio album by American singer Jesse Powell. It was released by Silas Records on September 8, 1998 in the United States. It was Powell's first album to chart on the US ''Billboard'' 200, peaking at number 63. For sales in excess of 600,000 copies, ''Bout It'' was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on June 8, 1999. Three singles were released from the album, including " I Wasn't with It", "You" and Bout It, 'Bout It". Silas Records
Silas Records was an American record label owned by Universal Music Group; founded in 1991 by Louil Silas Jr. and operated as an imprint of MCA Records, where Silas had been a senior VP. The label achieved minor success throughout the 1990s. It was eventually absorbed into MCA in 1999, after Silas left his post at UMG to take a position at LaFace Records. Its back catalog is now controlled by Geffen Records. The label's first and last releases were by Chanté Moore in 1992 and 1999.
