Silas Records
Silas Records was an American record label owned by Universal Music Group; founded in 1991 by Louil Silas Jr. and operated as an imprint of MCA Records, where Silas had been a senior VP. The label achieved minor success throughout the 1990s. It was eventually absorbed into MCA in 1999, after Silas left his post at UMG to take a position at LaFace Records. Its back catalog is now controlled by Geffen Records. The label's first and last releases were by Chanté Moore in 1992 and 1999. Other artists on the label included Aaron Hall, London Jones, Jesse Powell and Keith Washington. Universal Music Group N.V. (often abbreviated as UMG and referred to as just Universal Music) is a Dutch– American multinational music corporation under Dutch law. Aaron Hall (singer)
Aaron Robin Hall III (born August 10, 1964) is an American singer and songwriter. Hall rose to prominence in 1988 as a member of the R&B and new jack swing group Guy, which he founded in the late '80s along with Teddy Riley and Timmy Gatling, who was later replaced by Hall's brother Damion Hall. In 1988 Guy released their debut album, which went on to sell over a million copies and was certified platinum. Hall provided lead vocals on songs like "Groove Me," "I Like," and "Piece of My Love." He currently resides in Los Angeles with the occupation as a personal dog trainer. Early life Aaron Robin Hall III was born in the Bronx, New York City, and raised in Brooklyn. Keith Douglas Washington (born November 15, 1960) is an American R&B vocalist from Detroit who recorded the hit single " Kissing You" in 1991. The song was also used as background music for the ABC television soap opera ''General Hospital''. "Kissing You" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance Male and won a 1992 Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Single – Male. The song also topped the ''Billboard'' Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for one week. . Jesse Powell
Jesse Powell (September 12, 1971 – September 13, 2022) was an American R&B and soul singer. Discovered by Louil Silas Jr., Powell was best known for his hit "You", which peaked at No. 2 on the R&B chart and No. 10 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Powell released four albums and was the older brother of fellow contemporary R&B singers Trina & Tamara. Powell was credited with a four-octave vocal range. He was a Grammy nominee. Life and career Powell was born in Gary, Indiana, and raised with his siblings Trina, Tamara and Jacob. The family performed in local talent shows; and, in 1993, he attracted the attention of producer Carl Roland in Kansas City. Chanté Torrane Moore (born February 17, 1967) is an American singer-songwriter, actress, television personality, and author. Rising to fame in the early 1990s, Moore established herself as an R&B singer. Her debut studio album '' Precious'' was released in 1992. Louil Silas
Louil Silas Jr. (April 17, 1956 – January 7, 2001) was an American record executive, musician, and record producer, who was most known for founding and running an MCA Records imprint, Silas Records. After a prolific career as a remixer, Silas became a respected record label executive responsible for bringing Chanté Moore, Jesse Powell, Keke Wyatt, London Jones, and Tricky Stewart to prominence as well as working with Aaron Hall. Early career After attending California State University Silas, who had a musical gift, initially tried his hand as a singer, but found much more success as a DJ, remixing other records in the late 1970s. By the 1980s, he was in demand as a remixer, adding club heavy or hip-hop electronic percussion sounds to a previously recorded song.
