You're The Man (album)
''You're the Man'' the fourth posthumous studio album by American singer Marvin Gaye, originally intended to be released in 1972 as the follow-up to '' What's Going On''. It was released on March 29, 2019, through Motown, Universal Music Enterprises, and Universal Music Group to celebrate what would have been Gaye's 80th birthday on April 2, 2019. The album includes the single of the same name, as well as the intended original album in full and other songs Gaye recorded at the time. Salaam Remi's remix of " My Last Chance" was released in promotion of the album on February 8, 2019. Motown followed this release with What's Going On ''Live'' a few months later. Background and release ''You're the Man'' was intended as another socially conscious record like '' What's Going On'' (1971), but following the release of its lead single, the title track "You're the Man", Gaye cancelled its release. Marvin Gaye
Marvin Pentz Gay Jr., who also spelled his surname as Gaye (April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984), was an American singer and songwriter. He helped to shape the sound of Motown in the 1960s, first as an in-house session player and later as a solo artist with a string of successes, earning him the nicknames "Prince of Motown" and "Prince of Soul". Gaye's Motown songs include "Ain't That Peculiar", "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)", and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine". Gaye also recorded duets with Mary Wells, Kim Weston, Tammi Terrell, and Diana Ross. During the 1970s, Gaye recorded the albums '' What's Going On'' and ''Let's Get It On'' and became one of the first artists in Motown to break away from the reins of a production company. What's Going On Live
''What's Going On'' Live is a live album recorded in 1972 by American soul singer Marvin Gaye and released posthumously in 2019 by Motown. The album documents a live performance of his album '' What's Going On'' and has received mixed feedback from critics. Recording and release The songs on this album were recorded at Washington D.C.’s John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on May 1, 1972 as part of a Marvin Gaye Day celebration; it was the first live performance he had done in four years, since the death of his singing partner Tammi Terrell. Gaye was very hesitant about the performance and had to be talked into it by his mother: he was still grieving Terrell and disliked performing live anyway. Kenneth Stover
Kenneth C. Stover (born August 21, 1948 in Athens, Georgia, United States – December 2010, in Cleveland, Ohio) was an American Motown songwriter, producer, and singer. He contributed background vocals on Marvin Gaye's 1971 album '' What's Going On'' and wrote the first draft of Gaye's 1973 single "Let's Get It On". Career Stover and his brother Elgie moved to Detroit, Michigan, to work with their cousin Harvey Fuqua on his Tri-Phi record label. They befriended Marvin Gaye and members of the Motown family. In the late 1960s the Stover brothers signed to Motown's Jobete Music as staff songwriters. Stover contributed background vocals on Gaye's " Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)", and later co-wrote Gaye's " You're the Man" (1972). In 1973, Stover wrote the original rough draft of "Let's Get It On" and presented the song to Gaye as a political song. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted arithmetic mean, weighted average). Metacritic was created by Jason Dietz, Marc Doyle, and Julie Doyle Roberts in 1999. "My Last Chance" is a song by American recording artist Marvin Gaye. Gaye originally recorded this song as a demo during the making of the '' What's Going On'' period, initially as an instrumental. Two years later, he added vocals. Eventually he revised the song, along with Anna Gordy Gaye, his wife, and collaborator Elgie Stover as "I Love You Secretly" for The Miracles on their 1973 album, ''Renaissance''.
