Yoon Duk-joo
Yoon Duk-joo (June 23, 1921 in Korea – July 8, 2005 in South Korea) was a South Korean basketball administrator. She served as the Director of the Korea Basketball Association (1952–1954), President of the Women's Committee of the Asian Basketball Confederation (current FIBA Asia) (1986–1996), President of the Women's Commission of the FIBA (1986–1995) and Vice-President of the Korean Olympic Committee (1993–1997). In 1995, she was awarded the FIBA Order of Merit. Korea ( ko, 한국, or , ) is a peninsular region in East Asia. The Korea Basketball Association (KBA; ko, 대한농구협회) is the governing body of basketball in South Korea. Formed in 1925, it is based in Seoul. Basketball In South Korea
South Korea has traditional sports of its own, as well as sports from different cultures and countries. Sports originating from Korea Taekwondo, a popular martial sport is often claimed to have historical origins on the Korean peninsula with origins said to have been traced as far back as the 1st century BCE. However, such historical claims are difficult to empirically verify and separate from the influences of neighboring counties. The sport rose to prominence following the end of Japanese occupation with the end of WWII. Formalized rules were established in 1961 and in 1988 the sport became an Olympic event. The name "Taekwondo" literally means ''way of foot and fist'', although the modern emphasis lies on the kicks. This may be a way to help legitimize the sport's connection to the traditional practice called Taekkyon, which originated in Korea during the Goguryeo period in the 4th century.
