Yoder, Kansas
Yoder is an unincorporated community in Reno County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the community and nearby areas was 165. It is located approximately 10 miles southeast of the city of Hutchinson on K-96. Although Yoder is unincorporated, with no city government, it does have a U.S. Post Office and its own ZIP code (67585). Yoder is the hub of a local Amish community. History The community derives its name from its Amish founder, Valentine Yoder. The first post office in Yoder was established in November 1889. The community was home to the former Naval Air Station Hutchinson, later renamed to Hutchinson Air Force Station, and currently named as Sunflower Aerodrome Gliderport. Hutchinson, Kansas
Hutchinson is the largest city and county seat in Reno County, Kansas, United States, and located on the Arkansas River. It has been home to salt mines since 1887, thus its nickname of "Salt City", but locals call it "Hutch". As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 40,006. The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. Sunflower Aerodrome Gliderport
Sunflower Aerodrome Gliderport is a private glider airport in Reno County, Kansas, United States. It is located south of Hutchinson, and west-southwest of Yoder. It was opened in 1971. The facility is used for glider flying. It is a private facility, and prior arrangements are needed for its use. History The facility was built during World War II by the United States Navy and named Naval Air Station Hutchinson. It was an active naval aviation facility from 1942 to 1946. After the end of World War II it was briefly a civil airport known as Yoder Commercial Airport. Hutchinson Air Force Station (ADC ID: P-47, NORAD ID: Z-47) is a closed United States Air Force station. It is located west-southwest of Yoder, Kansas. It was closed for all military use in 1968.
