Yidcore
Yidcore are an Australian Jewish punk rock band from Melbourne, formed in 1998. Known primarily for playing punk covers of Jewish and Israeli songs, the band started writing more of its own material in later albums. Logo and The band's logo is a variation of the Ramones logo (which, in its turn, is based on the Seal of the President of the United States), with the names of the band members in Hebrew. The eagle is replaced by a chicken with a menora above its head, the apple tree branch replaced by a shofar, the arrows replaced by the Magen David and the writing "Oy Vey, Let's Eat" instead of "Hey Ho, Let's Go". The logo can be seen on the album cover of Yidcore's compilation ''Rocket to Rechovoth''. The band's mascot is a rubber chicken called Scrambles, which was usually taped to lead singer Bram Presser's microphone on concerts. It is now part of the Jewish Museum of Australia's collection. Eighth Day Slice/Fiddlin On Ya Roof
''Eighth Day Slice'' and ''Fiddlin on Ya Roof'' are the second album and first album of original songs by the Australian punk rock band Yidcore, released on 13 June 2005 (see 2005 in music). ''Eighth Day Slice'' is an album containing Yidcore's first original, composed songs as well as several covers. It includes a cover of Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath My Wings" and the track "Since I Bothered You" which both received play on Triple J as well as its counterpart music video show '' Rage''. ''Fiddlin on Ya Roof'' is a reworking of the musical ''Fiddler on the Roof''. It features guest vocals from Ben Lee, Useless ID, Renée Geyer, Ella Hooper, Handsome Dick Manitoba, The Drugs and Adam Goren (of Atom And His Package). Jewish rock is a form of contemporary Jewish religious music that is influenced by various forms of secular rock music. Bram Presser
Bram Presser (born 1976) is a Melbourne personality, known for his involvement in the Melbourne music scene and Jewish community. He fronted the Jewish punk rock prankster band Yidcore and was the singing voice for Mick Molloy in the 2006 Australian comedy film BoyTown. Following the breakup of Yidcore in December 2009, Presser turned to writing. He is a monthly columnist for The Australian Jewish News and is the author of the literary blog ''Bait For Bookworms''. His first short story, ''The Prisoner of Babel'', was published in Volume 7 of ''The Sleepers Almanac'' and another story, ''Crumbs'', won The Age Short Story Award for 2011. In an interview with The Age, Presser said the story was part of a novel he had been working on for several years. In 2000, Presser was a Bachelor of Laws Prize recipient, being awarded the Butterworths Prize (Advanced Legal Research). The Chanukah Song
"The Chanukah Song" is a novelty song written by comedian Adam Sandler with ''Saturday Night Live'' writers Lewis Morton and Ian Maxtone-Graham and originally performed by Sandler on ''Saturday Night Live''s Weekend Update on December 3, 1994. Sandler subsequently performed the song as part of his stand-up act, later updating it with new lyrics. Shofar
A shofar ( ; from he, שׁוֹפָר, ) is an ancient musical horn typically made of a ram's horn, used for Jewish religious purposes. Like the modern bugle, the shofar lacks pitch-altering devices, with all pitch control done by varying the player's embouchure. The shofar is blown in synagogue services on Rosh Hashanah and at the end of Yom Kippur; it is also blown every weekday morning in the month of Elul running up to Rosh Hashanah. Shofars come in a variety of sizes and shapes, depending on the choice of animal and level of finish. ''Rocket to Russia'' is the third studio album by the American punk rock band the Ramones, and was released on November 4, 1977, through Sire Records. Its origins date back to the summer of 1977, when "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" was released as a single. That summer was known as the peak of the punk rock genre since many punk bands were offered recording contracts. The album's recording began in August 1977, and the band had a considerably larger budget with Sire allowing them between $25,000 and $30,000; much of this money went toward the album's production rather than recording. The album's cover art was directed by John Gillespie. John Holmstrom and guitarist Johnny Ramone both worked on illustration, with the entire back cover contemplating a military theme, while the inner sleeve artwork depicted many of the themes portrayed in songs. Skrewdriver
Skrewdriver were an English punk rock band formed by Ian Stuart Donaldson in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, in 1976. Originally a punk band, Skrewdriver changed into a white supremacist rock band after reuniting in the 1980s. Their original line-up split in January 1979 and Donaldson reformed the band with different musicians in 1982. Career Ian Stuart Donaldson, formerly of the cover band Tumbling Dice, formed Skrewdriver as a punk rock band in Poulton-le-Fylde in 1976. At first, Skrewdriver sported a punk appearance, but they later changed their image to a skinhead look.
