This grew with the construction of the E5 highway through the area and even more when the metro was built. Today the district mainly consists of large estates of apartment buildings and although the area is being filled up with concrete buildings there is still green space, tennis courts and other sports areas. Akköprü
Akköprü ( tr, ak köprü, "white bridge", ota, اق کوپری) is a historical bridge in Yenimahalle district of Ankara, Turkey, crosses the Ankara River in front of Varlık neighbourhood. It is the oldest bridge in Ankara and still in good condition. The neighbourhood around the bridge was also named 'Akköprü'. The area is home to the great ''Atatürk Cultural Centre'' and ''Ankamall'' shopping centre, the biggest mall in Ankara.
