Yellow Ostrich
Yellow Ostrich is an American indie rock band based in Brooklyn, New York, United States. The band formed in 2009 and ostensibly serves as the solo project of multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Alex Schaaf. Previous collaborators include Michael Tapper, Jared Van Fleet and Zach Rose. History Yellow Ostrich originated in 2009 as the solo project of Schaaf, who first started recording music in his bedroom with a 4-track recorder. While pursuing his music degree at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, Schaaf had the opportunity to open for Bishop Allen, for whom Michael Tapper played drums at the time. The two musicians made a connection, and when Schaaf moved to Brooklyn at the same time as Tapper in 2010, they decided to perform together officially as Yellow Ostrich. Glasslands Gallery (or simply Glasslands) was a music venue, dance club and art space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Glasslands was founded by Brooke Baxter and Rolyn Hu in 2006, as a relocation of Baxter’s earlier art space in the same building, Glass House Gallery. Hu and Baxter held the lease on the Glasslands space until 2012, when they made a turn key sale to Rami Haykal and Jake Rosenthal of PopGun presents, who had been managing bookings since 2009, and day-to-day operations since 2010. PopGun owned the business and lease for two years, until the venue was displaced to be converted into Vice Media‘s office headquarters. Beirut is an American band that was originally the solo musical project of Zach Condon. Beirut's music combines elements of indie rock and world music. The band's first performance with the full brass section was in New York, in May 2006, in support of their debut album ''Gulag Orkestar'', but performed their first show with Condon, Petree, and Collins at the College of Santa Fe earlier that year. Bishop Allen is an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York, United States. The band's core members are Justin Rice and Christian Rudder, who are supported both on stage and in the studio by a rotating cast of musical collaborators. The band was formed in 2003 and grew out of Rice and Rudder's friendship; it takes its name from Bishop Allen Drive in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where the two lived together after attending Harvard University. Michael Tapper is an American musician and member of the Los Angeles band Fool's Gold. He was a member of the indie rock band We Are Scientists We Are Scientists is a New York City-based rock band that formed in Berkeley, California, in 1999.
