Alexander Yefimov
Aleksandr Nikolaevich Yefimov (russian: Александр Николаевич Ефимов; 6 February 1923 – 31 August 2012) was a senior military officer who served as Commander-in-Chief of the Soviet Air Force from 1984 to 1990. Earlier in his life, he had been an Il-2 pilot for which he was twice awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Early life Yefimov was born on 6 February 1923 to a working-class family of Russian Don Cossacks in Kantemirovka; his father was a railway worker. He spent most of his childhood in Millerovo, where he completed his tenth grade of school in 1940. There he developed a passion for aviation, joining the local Osoaviakhim glider school, where he made his first flight on 18 August 1938. Igor Markovich Yefimov or Igor Efimov (Russian: И́горь Ма́ркович Ефи́мов; August 8, 1937 – August 12, 2020) was an American philosopher, historian, writer and publisher of Russian origin. Some of his works were published under the pen name Andrei Moscovit. Together with , Sergei Dovlatov, , and , he founded the Leningrad writers' group "Townspeople" (), whose works circulated in samizdat. He was also the founder of Hermitage Publishers; a company specializing in Russian writers. Biography In 1960, he graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute. He then attended the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute; graduating in 1973. He joined the Union of Soviet Writers in 1965. Nikolai Vladimirovich Yefimov (russian: Никола́й Влади́мирович Ефи́мов; 31 May 1910 in Orenburg – 14 August 1982 in Moscow) was a Soviet mathematician. He is most famous for his work on generalized Hilbert's problem on surfaces of negative curvature. Yefimov grew up in Rostov-on-Don and graduated from Rostov State University, where he studied with Morduhai-Boltovskoi. He worked at Voronezh State University from 1934 to 1941. He taught at the Moscow State University since 1946. Aleksei Pogorelov was one of his students there. He received the Lobachevsky Prize in 1951 and Lenin Prize in 1966.
