Yasmin Giger
Yasmin Giger (born 6 November 1999) is a Swiss athlete specialising in the 400 metres hurdles. She won a gold medal at the 2017 European U20 Championships. Currently, she is the national champion in both the 400 metres and the 400 metres hurdles. Her personal best in the event is 55.25 seconds set in Tallinn in 2021, which is a national U23 record. Earlier in her career, she competed in the heptathlon. Career 2015 Giger made her international debut at the 2015 European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi and finished in second place in the 400 metres. Also, she earned a national title in the indoor 800 metres. 2016 The following year, Giger would return to Tbilisi for the 2016 European Youth Championships. 2016 European Athletics Youth Championships
The 2016 European Athletics Youth Championships was the first edition of the biennial, continental athletics competition for European athletes aged fifteen to seventeen. It was held in Tbilisi, Georgia from 14–17 July and was established following the 2013 Congress of the EAA in Skopje. The event programme mirrored that of the previous IAAF World Youth Championships in Athletics, with the exception of a boy's decathlon, rather than the octathlon. Around 900 athletes from 46 European Athletics Member Federations took part. This was the only edition of the championships to be described as "Youth Championships". World and European Athletics hereafter changed their nomenclature from "Youth" and "Junior" to "Under-18" and "Under-20" respectively. 800 Metres
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m. A heptathlon is a track and field combined events contest made up of seven events. The 400 metres, or 400-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field competitions. 400 Metres Hurdles
The 400 metres hurdles is a track and field hurdling event. The event has been on the Olympic athletics programme since 1900 for men and since 1984 for women. On a standard outdoor track, 400 metres is the length of the inside lane, once around the stadium. Runners stay in their lanes the entire way after starting out of the blocks and must clear ten hurdles that are evenly spaced around the track. The hurdles are positioned and weighted so that they fall forward if bumped into with sufficient force, to prevent injury to the runners. Although there is no longer any penalty for knocking hurdles over, runners prefer to clear them cleanly, as touching them during the race slows runners down. The best male athletes can run the 400 m hurdles in a time of around 46 seconds, while the very best female athletes achieve a time of around 51 seconds. Athletics At The 2015 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival
The athletics competition at the 2015 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival was held at the Athletics Stadium of Tbilisi in Tbilisi, Georgia between 27 July and 1 August. A total of 36 events were held, evenly divided between the sexes, repeating the programme of the previous edition. The competition was preceded the World Athletics Leaders Seminar, which included European Athletics president Svein Arne Hansen and IAAF Vice President Sergey Bubka among its attendees. The games' athletics came ahead of the city's hosting of the 2016 European Athletics Youth Championships – the first edition of the competition, which will be held in the even years between the European Youth Festival's events.
