Yasaman Aryani is an Iranian political prisoner. She appeared without a head scarf, and talked about it on social media. Biography In August 2018, Aryani was arrested at a protest in Tehran with other activists, while assisting an old woman the police knocked to the ground. Political Prisoner
A political prisoner is someone imprisoned for their political activity. The political offense is not always the official reason for the prisoner's detention. Tehran
Tehran (; fa, تهران ) is the largest city in Tehran Province and the capital of Iran. Nobel Women's Initiative
The Nobel Women's Initiative is an international advocacy organisation based in Ottawa, Canada. It was created in 2006 by six female winners of the Nobel Peace Prize to support women's groups around the world in campaigning for justice, peace and equality. The six founders are Shirin Ebadi, Wangari Maathai, Rigoberta Menchú, Jody Williams, Mairead Maguire, and Betty Williams. The only other living female Nobel Peace Prize winner, Aung San Suu Kyi, was under house arrest at the time of the initiative's formation. She became an honorary member on her release in 2010. The initiative's first conference, in 2007, focused on women, conflict and security in the Middle East. The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI; fa, شورای ملی مقاومت ایران, Šurā-ye melli-e moqāvemat-e Īrān) is an Iranian political organization based in France and Albania. The organization is a political coalition calling to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran. Qarchak Prison
Qarchak Prison ( fa, زندان قرچک, Zendân-e-Qarchak) is a prison for women located in Qarchak, in Qarchak County, previously part of Varamin County, Tehran Province, Iran (30 km SSE of the capital). It is also called fa, زندان زنان ری, Rey Women Prison ( Shahr-e Rey prison), “Gharchak Women’s Prison“, Rey Penitentiary or Varamin prison. Health and sanitation conditions Health conditions are very poor inside Qarchak. There is no proper sewer. Hijab
In modern usage, hijab ( ar, حجاب, translit=ḥijāb, ) generally refers to headcoverings worn by Muslim women. Many Muslims believe it is obligatory for every female Muslim who has reached the age of puberty to wear a head covering.
