Yannic Seidenberg
Yannic Seidenberg (born 11 January 1984) is a German professional ice hockey left winger who currently plays for EHC München of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). He is the younger brother of defenseman Dennis Seidenberg. Playing career He started his professional career with Adler Mannheim and signed with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League before the 2003–04 season. After one year he returned to Germany and signed with Kölner Haie; one year later he signed with ERC Ingolstadt, where he spent the next four seasons before returning to Mannheim. On 29 April 2013, Seidenberg signed a two-year deal with DEL rival EHC München. In an organized sports league, a typical season is the portion of one year in which regulated games of the sport are in session: for example, in Major League Baseball the season lasts approximately from the last week of March to the last week of September. In other team sports, like association football or basketball, it is generally from August or September to May although in some countries - such as Northern Europe or East Asia - the season starts in the spring and finishes in autumn, mainly due to weather conditions encountered during the winter. 2004–05 DEL Season
The 2004–05 Deutsche Eishockey Liga season was the 11th season since the founding of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga ( en, German Ice Hockey League). The Eisbären Berlin ( en, Polar Bears Berlin) became first time German Champion, a feat they will repeat a number of times in the next seasons. The Kassel Huskies was allowed to stay in the league, despite losing the play-down, as Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg lost its DEL license. The season was significant, due to the NHL lockout. 22 NHL players came to play the season in the DEL, with the Iserlohn Roosters making the first move by signing up Mike York. Several German national team players came as well -- Marco Sturm, Jochen Hecht and Olaf Kölzig. Other significant signings included Stéphane Robidas and Doug Weight midseason signups for the previous season champion the Frankfurt Lions. The 2003–04 WHL season was the 38th season for the Western Hockey League. Twenty teams completed a 72-game season. The Medicine Hat Tigers won the President's Cup, while the host Kelowna Rockets won the Memorial Cup. The Schwenninger ERC Wild Wings lost their license due to insolvency proceedings and the Frankfurt Lions were granted a stay in the league. 2001–02 DEL Season
The 2001–02 Deutsche Eishockey Liga season was the 8th season since the founding of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga ( en, German Ice Hockey League). The league also introduced a new logo, that will stay in use until the 2011-2012 season. The Kölner Haie won the DEL Championship the second time in their history, making it the eighth time they held the German Champion title. Relegation was reintroduced for this season and after a playdown the Berlin Capitals were relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. This would not be the only teams leaving the league, as the DEL withdrew the license for the Moskitos Essen and Revierlöwen Oberhausen. Bavarian Ice Hockey Leagues
The Bavarian ice hockey leagues are part of the German ice hockey league system and form the tiers four to six of the league system in the state of Bavaria. The leagues are operated by the ''Bayrischer Eissport Verband'', the Bavarian association for ice sports. Overview The league system in Bavaria consists of three separate tiers, these being the ''Bayernliga'' (IV) (English:''Bavarian League''), ''Landesliga'' (V) (English:''State League'') and ''Bezirksliga'' (VI) (English:''County League''). The overall system has remained unchanged for a lengthy period of seasons. German Development League
The German Development League (German: Deutsche Nachwuchsliga, DNL) is the elite junior league of the German Ice Hockey Federation. It was founded in 2000 in cooperation with the national hockey associations. Penalty (ice Hockey)
A penalty in ice hockey is a punishment for an infringement of the rules. Most penalties are enforced by sending the offending player to a penalty box for a set number of minutes. During the penalty the player may not participate in play. Penalties are called and enforced by the referee, or in some cases, the linesman. The offending team may not replace the player on the ice (although there are some exceptions, such as fighting), leaving them short-handed as opposed to full strength. When the opposing team is said to be on a ''power play'', they will have one more player on the ice than the short-handed team. The short-handed team is said to be "on the penalty kill" until the penalty expires and the penalized player returns to play. While standards vary somewhat between leagues, most leagues recognize several common varieties of penalties, as well as common infractions.
