Yankton, Oregon
Yankton is an unincorporated community in Columbia County, Oregon, United States. Located on the Milton Creek watershed, Yankton was established by three Tarbell families. First the community was called "Yankeetown" and "Maineville" but became Yanktown when the post office was established in 1894. The Yankton School House was thought to have been built in 1887, and First Baptist Church of Maineville (a Conservative Baptist congregation known as Yankton Baptist Church from 1904 through 2005, and renamed Yankton Community Fellowship in 2005) was established on August 12, 1893. Yankton today is served by St. Helens post office and is under ZIP Code 97051. Columbia County, Oregon
Columbia County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 52,589. The county seat is St. Helens. History The Chinook and Clatskanie Native American peoples inhabited this region for centuries prior to the arrival of Robert Gray, captain of the ship ''Columbia Rediviva'', in 1792. The Lewis and Clark Expedition traveled and camped along the Columbia River shore in the area later known as Columbia County in late 1805 and again on their return journey in early 1806. Columbia County was created in 1854 from the northern half of Washington County. Milton served as the county seat until 1857 when it was moved to St. Helens. Portland Community College (PCC) is a public community college in Portland, Oregon. It is the largest post-secondary institution in the state and serves residents in the five-county area of Multnomah, Washington, Yamhill, Clackamas, and Columbia counties. As of the 2021–2022 academic year, PCC enrolls more than 50,000 full-time (40%) and part-time (60%) students.
