Yakö People
The Yakurr (also Yakö and Yakạạ) live in five compact towns in Cross River State (Obono 2001, p. 3), Nigeria. They were formally known as Umor, Ekoli, Ilomi, Nkoibolokom and Yakurr be Ibe. Due to linguistic problems encountered by the early European visitors, the settlements have come to be known by their mispronounced versions – Ugep, Ekori, Idomi, Nko and Mkpani (Okoi-Uyouyo 2002). In the latter, it is a product of ''yakpanikpani'' (a Lokạạ word for "tricks"), a name, which Enang (1980) says was given to them by the Ugep people after being tricked in a conflict (''Yakurr News''). Territory Yakurr people are predominantly found in territories that lies between latitudes 50 401 and 60 101 north of the equator and longitudes 80 21 and 60 101 east of the Greenwich Meridian and northwest of Calabar, the capital of Cross River State. Efa Iwara, also known as Efa, is a Nigerian actor and rapper. Early life and education Iwara was born on 20 August 1990 in Ibadan, Oyo State to his Professor of Linguistics father and Librarian mother. He hails from Ugep in Cross River State. Okoi Ikpi Itam
is a historical fantasy novel about ninja written in 1958–1959 by the Japanese author Futaro Yamada. It is the first installment in Yamada's ''Ninja Scrolls'' series, which he wrote until his death in 2001. The book was translated into English by Geoff Sant, and published by Del Rey in December 2006. Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas
Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (born 27 September 1960) is a retired Nigerian navy vice admiral, who was the 22nd Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) of the Nigerian Navy from 13 July 2015 to 26 January 2021. Clement David Ebri (born 11 December 1952) is a Nigerian politician who was elected on the NRC platform as Governor of Cross River State, Nigeria between January 1992 and November 17, 1993 during the Nigerian Third Republic, leaving office after the military coup that brought General Sani Abacha to power. He was a strong supporter of General Ibrahim Babangida, who had initiated the short-lived third republic. Okoi Arikpo
Dr. Okoi Arikpo (20 September 1916 – 26 October 1995) was a Nigerian chemist, anthropologist, lawyer, politician and diplomat. He served as the foreign minister of Nigeria. Early life and political career Okoi Arikpo was born in Ugep in 1916. He was educated at the famous Hope Waddell Training Institution in Calabar. He was awarded a First Class Degree in Chemistry in the University of London. He changed into anthropology and got a Doctorate Degree at University College, London. He later studied Law and was called to the English bar in 1956. He authored many books including the classic ''The Development of Modern Nigeria'' (1967). He was reputed to be the first West African to be awarded a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Anthropology. Efik Language
Efik (''Usem Efịk'') is the indigenous language of the Efik people, who are situated in the present-day Cross River state and Akwa Ibom state of Nigeria, as well as in the North-West of Cameroon. The Efik language is mutually intelligible with other lower Cross River languages such as Ibibio, Annang, Oro and Ekid but the degree of intelligibility in the case of Oro and Ekid is unidirectional; in other words, speakers of these languages speak and understand Efik (and Ibibio) but not vice versa. The Efik vocabulary has been enriched and influenced by external contact with the British, Portuguese and other surrounding communities such as Balondo, Oron, Efut, Okoyong, Efiat and Ekoi (Qua).
